About Us: Cold Spring COOP is a member-owned cooperative dedicated to enhancing the livelihoods of local farmers while providing high-quality goods to our community. We combine the roles of an agricultural cooperative with the operations of a retail store, selling local produce, farm supplies, and artisanal products.

Job Summary: The General Manager will oversee both the cooperative's agricultural operations and the management of our retail store. This role requires leadership in strategic planning, operational management, staff supervision, and community engagement to ensure the cooperative's growth and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

● Leadership and Strategy:

o Provide strong leadership to staff and foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and excellent customer service.

o Develop and execute strategic business plans to drive the growth and profitability of the cooperative.

o Maintain strong relationships with cooperative members, employees, suppliers, and community stakeholders.

o Keep the Board of Directors informed with regular reports on operations, financial performance, and industry trends.

● Operational Management:

o Oversee day-to-day operations, including agronomy, feed, and retail store services.

o Ensure high-quality products and services that meet the needs of cooperative members and customers.

o Maintain strong supplier relationships and negotiate contracts to secure the best pricing and service.

o Monitor inventory levels and supply chain logistics to optimize efficiency.

● Financial & Business Management:

o Oversee the cooperative’s financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

o Ensure sound financial decision-making and compliance with all regulatory requirements.

o Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profitability.

o Work with auditors, accountants, and other financial professionals to maintain accurate financial records.

● Human Resources & Employee Management:

o Hire, train, and develop a strong management team and staff.

o Implement HR policies, employee development programs, and performance evaluations.

o Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

● Board & Member Relations:

o Communicate effectively with the Board of Directors and provide recommendations on key business decisions.

o Support cooperative governance by implementing board policies and strategic initiatives.

o Engage with cooperative members to understand their needs and ensure member satisfaction.

● Compliance and Administration:

o Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations affecting cooperative businesses and retail operations.

o Handle administrative tasks such as member communications, record-keeping, and regulatory filings.

Qualifications:

● Degree in Business, Agriculture, or a related field.(Preferred)

● Proven experience in management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, ideally in retail, agriculture, or cooperative environments.

● Strong financial and business acumen, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial management.

● Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

● Knowledge of agricultural products, markets, and cooperative business structures.

● Proficient in use of management software, POS systems, and basic IT skills.

Skills:

● Strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture while managing day-to-day operations.

● Excellent communicator, adept at building relationships with diverse stakeholders.

● Problem-solver with the capacity to innovate and adapt to market changes.
