Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our Facilities team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment across a variety of spaces, including research buildings, residential housing, and guest accommodations. Your work will directly support the comfort and well-being of our staff, researchers, and visitors.

Position Responsibilities

• Performing light and heavy cleaning duties in various areas throughout the Laboratory.
• Supporting Laboratory events by providing porter services and assisting in moving furniture and equipment.
• Cleaning office and laboratory spaces, conference rooms, restrooms, and other work areas.
• Supplying and maintaining cleanliness in restrooms and kitchenettes.
• Performing floor cleaning, carpet maintenance, and upholstery cleaning.
• Dusting and polishing furniture, window blinds, and other surfaces.
• Handling regulated medical waste collection and disposal procedures.
• Following safety procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
• Keeping storage areas well-stocked, clean, and organized.
• Notifying the supervisor of any repair needs.

Position Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience: 1 year of experience in a custodial position

• Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs
• Ability to work on ladders and step stools
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Basic cleaning techniques.
• Attention to detail.
• Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory offers a free shuttle service to and from Syosset Train Station for all employees

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
