Position Description
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a world-renowned scientific research organization located on the North Shore of Long Island, is hiring a Catering Prep Assistant Coordinator.
This individual will assist in producing & expediting cold food preparation tasks to support Events & Catering.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist Catering Chef in food preparation for events, dining & catering services.
- Stand in for Catering Chef during absence.
- Contribute to developing catering menus and maintaining recipe database.
- Contribute to insuring that menus, recipes and procedures are followed by catering preparation staff
- Train and supervise full, part time and seasonal catering prep employees.
- Insure cold preparation staff follows proper sanitation procedures.
- Interact in a courteous manner with clientele, fellow employees and other supervisors.
- Provides support to the Chef Catering services including:
- Purchasing of produce & baked goods
- Job performance feedback
- Ensuring that the administrative and operational policies and procedures of the department and the Laboratory are followed.
- Perform and insure secure close up of work area / facility at the end of a shift / work day
Position Requirements
EDUCATION:
- High School diploma, or equivalent.
- Sanitation Certificate
EXPERIENCE:
- Five years’ experience in restaurant and/or hotel management.
SKILLS:
- Ability to speak and understand the Spanish language is helpful.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
- Work scheduling.
- Vendors and sources of supply.
- Cold food preparation and serving.
- Proper sanitation procedures.
- Organization skills.
- Diplomacy and tact.
- Social etiquette.
- Telephone etiquette.
- Computer literate.
- Operation of a departmental computer database.
- Familiarity with the facilities on the Laboratory grounds.

Compensation
The hourly rate for this role is $22.77- $25.70 The hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity).
