Primary Purpose
- Assist librarian in the administration of the campus library. Perform routine clerical duties under direct supervision.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- High School Diploma or GED
- Have met formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, two years of study or 48 hours at an institution of higher learning
- Paraprofessional Aide Certification required (can be obtained once employed)
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
- Ability to file books following district cataloging system
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Physically and emotionally able to perform assigned tasks
- Communicate and work well with students
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships
- Must possess personal qualities related to respect for the rights and confidentiality of others
Experience
- Must have experience working with students; experience may be work in church related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed day-care centers, or similar experience
- One year clerical experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Library Program Support
- Provide individual instruction and assistance in using library media center resources including computers and audiovisual equipment.
- Shelve incoming books, material, and equipment.
- Ready materials for classroom or reserve collection use as requested by teachers.
- Request and schedule use of materials from regional education service center or other source.
- Prepare bulletin boards and displays and assist the librarian in preparing instructional materials.
- May read to small groups of students and listen to individual students read aloud.
Accounting and Inventory
- Operate the media center automated circulation system.
- Collect and maintain records of student fines and prepare parent notification as needed.
- Receive and process books, materials, and equipment and reconcile with packing slips and invoices.
- Repair books, magazines, materials, and equipment or process for repair at outside facilities (e.g., bindery).
- Perform routine maintenance on audiovisual equipment.
- Assist in the annual inventory and weeding of library media center materials.
Clerical Support
- Maintain physical and computerized files, including card catalog, vertical file materials, and publisher catalogs.
- Prepare bibliographies, forms, purchase orders, requisitions, and routine correspondence using personal computer.
- Assist librarian in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
Student Management
- Help with student supervision before, during, and after school while the students are loading and unloading buses, on the playground, in the cafeteria, in a learning or practice environment, inside and outside of the classroom while following appropriate training technique throughout the school day.
- Supervise students and assist librarian and teachers to maintain student behavior and maintain an orderly atmosphere.

- Perform duties as assigned, related to the position as directed by the supervisor or administrative staff
- Supervise library operation in absence of the librarian.
