Do you have lived experience with mental illness or a substance use disorder and are far enough along in your recovery that you are ready to help others who have similar lived experiences. We are seeking a full-time Peer Support Specialist in our St. Clairsville, Ohio office to provide peer support as a member of the Crisis Team in Belmont, Harrison and Monroe Counties.
This position is a role model to peers, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and the use of coping skills, serving as an advocate, and providing information about peer support in outpatient settings. The Peer Support Specialist performs a wide range of tasks to help peers regain independence within the community and ownership over their own recovery process by using a variety of techniques. Peer Specialists provide guidance, hope, and support toward recovery through personal experience and growth.
Peer Support Requirements:
- High school diploma;
- Completed state peer support training/certificate from Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services (OMHAS)
- Lived experience in mental illness or substance use
- Have and maintain acceptable driving record
- Able to cope with mental and emotional stress related to working with persons who are experiencing mental health concerns and crisis
- Must be willing to complete and have favorable results for criminal background check, and driving check if selected for the position
