The Research Animal Supervisor at Colgate University is responsible for ensuring the welfare and well-being of research animals in our care. • Develop and implement animal care plans in collaboration with researchers, including defining feeding and housing requirements, and developing enrichment programs.
• Oversee the daily operations of the animal care facility, including managing inventory levels, coordinating maintenance schedules, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with institutional animal care protocols and state and federal regulations.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement new policies and procedures for animal care and research.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
• A bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or related field, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory or animal care setting.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a team and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to stay current with relevant animal care regulations from agencies such as the NYS Department of Health, USDA Animal Welfare Act, and PHS.
