What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer position at Collabera?
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
EMC Testing & Troubleshooting:
- Conduct electromagnetic compatibility testing on electronic devices and systems per industry standards (e.g., FCC, IEC/EN 61000, CISPR32, ETSI, and RF testing).
- Troubleshoot EMC issues using equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, field scanning robots, and D-sens testers.
- Run iterative tests to pinpoint and resolve radiated and conducted emissions and immunity issues.
Lab & Equipment Management:
- Set up, operate, and maintain EMI/EMC testing equipment in both internal labs and external test houses.
- Ensure accuracy in test setups and results, documenting procedures, test data, and findings in detailed reports.
- Keep the test lab in proper working order and assist with related test and measurement tasks.
Collaboration & External Support:
- Work closely with EMC engineers and external partner labs to collect and assess test data.
- Assist in presenting data to regulatory compliance agencies such as the SEC.
- Support field devices and contribute to troubleshooting efforts across multiple labs concurrently.
Must-Have Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 3–4 years of EMC/EMI testing experience (preferably 5–10 years).
- Strong understanding of radiated and conducted emissions, electromagnetics, and electrical circuits.
- Proven troubleshooting skills with a hands-on mindset, including the ability to assemble/disassemble devices and handle large testing terminals.
- Working knowledge of EMC standards (e.g., FCC, IEC, ETSI) with an understanding of product safety compliance testing
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in wireless or RF design, ideally from high-volume manufacturers or industry leaders
- Familiarity with EMC lab software (e.g., Tybat, EMC Electra, LabVIEW) and scripting languages such as Python and MATLAB.
- Ability to quickly learn new software commands and test modes.
- A customer-centric mindset with strong ownership, earned trust, and a results-driven approach.
