Job Description:
The Owner's Engineer is a mechanical project engineering role within Gas Compression Project Engineering team. This position supports modifications to existing facilities and new construction projects at our natural gas compressor stations. The Owner's Engineer will work closely with project managers, engineers of other disciplines, system engineers, environmental engineers, station operations and maintenance personnel, outage managers, construction managers, external engineers of record, construction contractors, and vendor representatives to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and on budget.
Responsibilities
- Project Engineering Support: Provide engineering support for project development activities including feasibility studies, conceptual engineering design, and cost estimating.
- Design Oversight: Oversee the development of detailed design documents by external Engineers of Record.
- Drawing Review: Review engineering drawings and calculations that detail plans and specifications for construction projects.
- Specification Development: Develop technical specifications and bid documents for detailed engineering, engineered equipment, materials, and construction contracts.
- Bid Evaluation: Lead the technical bid evaluation for detailed engineering, equipment, materials, and construction contracts.
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure all technical aspects of the project objectives are met.
- Shop Inspection: Perform shop inspection visits to supplier facilities to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.
- Field Engineering: Perform field engineering and support the resolution of construction issues.
- Testing and Commissioning: Support testing and commissioning of new equipment and facilities.
- Issue Resolution: Identify, analyze, and recommend corrective actions to technical issues identified in the field during project execution and/or initial operation.
- Project Management Support: Assist project management and project controls with the development of project schedules and budgets.
- Meeting Attendance: Attend project coordination meetings.
- Project Closeout: Participate in the closeout of projects including turnover of project files and record documents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- 5 years of applied ABET engineering experience.
- Experience in the design, construction, or operation of natural gas compressor station equipment.
- Experience in reviewing designs to assure compliance with engineering design, applicable codes, constructability, and industry standards.
- Knowledge of CFR 49 Part 192 Transportation of Natural and Other Gas by Pipeline (Minimum Federal Safety Standards), and/or Michigan Gas Safety Standards Guide (MGSS).
- Knowledge of ASME Codes & Standards (e.g., ASME B31.8, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, ASME B16.5/16.47, ASME BPVC, etc.).
- Knowledge of API Specifications & Standards (e.g., API 5L, API 6D, API 1104, etc.).
- Experience in procurement of engineered material, equipment and professional services.
- Experience coordinating and developing contract documents (RFP documentation), specifically engineering drawings and technical specifications for both consulting and construction.
