Job Title: Cloud/On-Premise Data Engineer
Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Cloud/On-Premise Data Engineer to join our team. This role involves designing and building data pipelines both on-premises and in cloud environments such as Azure. The ideal candidate will have experience in coding, maintaining ETL processes, and developing data solutions to support various functional areas including Life, Accounting, Actuarial, Sales and Marketing, Underwriting, Claims, and IT.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design data structures and solutions to support transactional data processing, batch and real-time data movement, and data warehousing.
- Perform ad-hoc query and analysis on structured and unstructured data from a variety of sources.
- Develop queries, data marts, and data files to support reporting and analytics efforts in IT and business unit customers.
- Recommend and implement data solutions to improve the usage of data assets across the organization.
- Optimize and operationalize prototype solutions developed by other team members or business analysts.
- Participate in the design and development of data services (REST, SOAP, etc.) as needed.
- Map existing solutions developed in legacy technology to new architecture and implement modernized solutions in target-state technology stack.
- Perform peer review and occasional QA support for solutions developed by other associates within the Data Management group or other functional areas8.
- Investigate and document current data flow processes between corporate systems, business partners, and downstream data consumers.
- Create data models and technical metadata using modeling tools such as ER Studio or Erwin.
- Document and disseminate system interactions and data process flows.
- Participate in the design and development of target-state analytics ecosystem using traditional and big data tools, as well as a mix of on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
- Ingest, transform, and store new sources of internal and external data to improve analytical capabilities.
- Perform mapping of data sources to target data models and outputs.
- Other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- 5 years work experience developing high-performing data systems, adhering to established best-practices.
- Strong SQL development skills, creating complex queries, views, and stored procedures17.
- Solid understanding of SQL best practices.
- Experience interfacing with business stakeholders to understand data and analytics needs and deliver solutions.
- Experience with ETL tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and more.
- Experience in a variety of data technologies such as SQL Server, DB2, MongoDB.
- Strong experience with relational data structures, theories, principles, and practices.
- Experience in Agile Scrum and/or Kanban project management frameworks.
- Experience in creating data specifications, data catalogs, and process flow diagrams.
- Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- Experience developing REST or SOAP services preferred.
- Experience developing data solutions in cloud infrastructures such as AWS or Azure preferred.
- Experience working with Power BI preferred.
- Experience working in a Dev-ops or Data-ops environment preferred.
- Proficiency in Python and Databricks.
- Data cloud provider experience (snowflake, databricks)
