CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency, is seeking an Outreach Worker to serve Salem County. Under the direction of the Team Leader, this role involves finding and identifying unsheltered homeless individuals through direct street outreach activities.
Main Responsibilities:
- Building relationships with people experiencing unsheltered homelessness to provide advocacy and assistance in connecting them to services and housing.
- Connecting clients with resources and services to help stabilize their homeless, mental health, and primary health situations.
About the Role:
This position focuses on community engagement, with 90% of time spent interacting with unhoused individuals. As a full-time employee, you will be eligible for benefits including medical coverage, dental care, and vision care. You will also receive six weeks of paid time off and 11 holidays per year.
Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience providing peer support.
- Knowledge of HMIS software is a plus.
- The ability to establish positive relationships with individuals who are chronically homeless and have high vulnerability, including those with mental illness, substance use disorders, and a history of involvement with the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of transitional and permanent supportive housing.
- Willingness to disclose current or prior use of mental health and/or addiction services, homelessness, and speak openly about aspects of your individual recovery.
- The ability to work with individuals with mental illness in a caring and professional manner.
- Proficiency in MS Office products and general computer literacy.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
- A valid NJ driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
