Position Overview: 
Great States Construction, a leading commercial general contractor based in Fargo, ND, is seeking an experienced and results-driven Director of Construction to oversee all aspects of field operations for construction projects. The Director of Construction will play a pivotal role in ensuring quality control, safety, and operational efficiency across job sites. This individual will work closely with project superintendents, field teams, subcontractors, and report directly to the VP of Construction. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Quality control: Ensure strict adherence to construction standards, building codes, and client specifications.
  • Oversee and manage all field operations to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet high-quality standards. 
  • Maintain and enforce the highest levels of safety standards on all job sites, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies. 
  • Supervise, mentor, and lead project superintendents and field teams to achieve optimal performance and coordination. 
  • Manage and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, ensuring that quality work is being completed in accordance with project specifications. 
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to monitor progress, quality, safety, and overall project performance. 
  • Develop and implement field procedures, guidelines, and best practices to improve operational efficiency and consistency across projects. 
  • Report on project status, field challenges, and opportunities for improvement to the VP of Construction. 
  • Address and resolve any field-related issues or conflicts that arise, acting as a liaison between the field team, subcontractors, and project management. 


Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in construction field operations, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or supervisory role. 
  • Extensive experience managing field teams, superintendents, and subcontractors on large-scale commercial and multi-family projects. 
  • In-depth knowledge of construction safety regulations, quality control processes, and best practices. 
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills with the ability to drive performance and resolve conflicts effectively. 
  • Proven track record of successfully managing field operations from project start to completion. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a focus on quality and safety. 
  • A bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required. 
  • OSHA certification and other relevant industry certifications are a plus. 
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% 
  • Clean Driving Record. 

Physical Demands 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Must be able to lift and/or move 50 pounds. 
  • Stand/walk for long periods of time. 
  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Experience with Procore preferred. 
  • Experience with Bluebeam or similar software. 
  • Data analysis. 
  • Great customer service skills.
