About the Team

The Assessment Design and Development Math team is a productive, diverse, and dedicated team of highly skilled education professionals with vast experience in both the classroom and largescale assessment. We are passionate about math and are committed to improving educational opportunities and outcomes, particularly for disadvantaged students. We live all over the country and work together effectively through technology daily.

Our team’s culture is collaborative and nurturing. We have high expectations for quality work, and we provide the resources and support to allow the team to meet those expectations. We are unanimous in our belief that this is our favorite job ever!

About the Opportunity

As a Senior Assessment Specialist, you will apply your enthusiasm for and experience in math education to collaboratively develop high-quality assessment content for the Digital SAT Suite Math Tests and related assessments. You’ll contribute to assessment-related projects within the larger Assessment Design and Development department.

Your love of math problems, comfort with technology, and enjoyment trying new approaches will enable you to contribute significantly to creating high-quality content for the Digital SAT Suite. You are self-motivated and deadline-focused, with a curious and inquisitive nature. As such, you will work hard to ensure the content you craft and review meets our rigorous standards and supports our mission to help all students own their future.

In this role, you will:

Build the Digital SAT Suite pool of math items (80%)

  • Write and refine multiple-choice and constructed-response math questions
  • Write and refine answer explanations in accordance with established quality and process standards and within established timelines.
  • Provide senior-level reviews of content written by other team members. Act as a mentor to less experienced staff.
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings with external content and fairness experts reviewing math test questions and test forms
  • Provide expertise in curriculum to internal and external clients, including working on alignments between College Board tests and national and state standards.
  • Lead small projects as assigned.
  • Utilize specialized software and platforms to create and validate test content.
  • Use pretest data to inform and support item authoring.

Contribute to process improvement efforts (10%)

  • Implement defined operational math assessment goals and process/procedure improvements; monitor and improve progress toward goals; serve as a content expert; and provide status updates to director-level math staff, as needed.

Contribute to team culture (10%)

  • Help promote a collaborative, constructive, mission-focused work environment in which the highest standards of quality and process are established and maintained; problems are prevented or quickly corrected with the least possible impact; staff are nurtured; creativity and problem solving are encouraged and rewarded; and the needs and expectations of students and other stakeholders are foremost in mind.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and share learning with the team.

 About You

As a Senior Assessment Specialist, you have:

  • Master’s degree or the equivalent education and experience in Math, Math education, Statistics, or closely related field, including the sciences, required.
  • 4-6 years of experience in K-12 or K-16 test development, including development of multiple-choice and constructed-response math items, with a nationally recognized testing organization, test publisher, or state testing program highly preferred.
  • Experience teaching math at the middle, secondary, or post-secondary levels to a diverse population of students highly preferred. Candidates with a background in science, as a practicioner or instructor, paired with strong math background, will also be considered.
  • In-depth exposure to state and Common Core academic standards in mathematics is strongly preferred.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications and ability and interest to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability for national travel approximately 2-3 times a year.

Your Skills

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid organizational, time, and task management skills
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail
