Job Purpose
As a member of the dynamic Student Success Center team in the School of Business, the Academic Success Advisor champions the success of a caseload of assigned Business students from their first semester through graduation. Using available technologies and student success insights, the individual facilitates developmental academic advising that guides students through major and minor selection, degree planning, and course registration while also proactively and intentionally helping students make meaningful connections with both their academic programs and academic support resources. Through continuous training as well as partnerships within and beyond the School of Business, the Academic Success Advisor maintains a working knowledge of Business curricula, College policy, and campus resources. The individual communicates and meets regularly with their assigned caseload through appointments and drop-in hours. The Academic Success Advisor also leads targeted outreach and support campaigns to help students progress and complete. This individual plays a critical role creating environments where Business students form an advising relationship they can trust and an academic community in which they belong.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required. At least one year of direct, paid, full-time experience in higher education academic advising or student support required. FERPA competence required. Experience with Banner and DegreeWorks, or another degree progress system, preferred but not required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have experience with program planning and development, student advising, and working in a team environment. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with outside agencies, the public, students, faculty, and staff. Must have knowledge of the basic principles and theories of student development and academic advising with proficiency in applying those theories in practice. Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills required. Ability to compile information, prepare reports and provide recommendations based on findings. Must be able to exercise sound judgment and discretion. Familiarity with widely used software is required; experience using Banner, Degree Works, and retention software is preferred.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
May be required to work some evenings/weekends to assist with student and/or School functions.

PROACTIVE ACADEMIC SUPPORT: Utilizing the College’s retention software as well as professional advising judgement, leads developmental, intrusive conversations with students that help them connect with resources within the Student Success Center and offered through the College that will maximize their academic success. Leverages available data and insights, as well as critical dates in the academic calendar, to motivate proactive student action and to provide the unique support needed for individual students or for identified subsets of the assigned student caseload. Effectively documents student support in respective platforms. Collaborates with leadership to best communicate impact of efforts.

REFERRALS AND RELATIONSHIP CULTIVATION: Regularly facilitates internal referrals to Student Success Center services. Forms partnerships with faculty, staff, and academic departments within the School of Business, as well as student success units outside the School of Business, that help the advisor explain academic programs, teach students programmatic and College expectations, and connect the student with needed resources. Advocates for individual or programmatic modifications that help students succeed, progress, and graduate. Serves as a resource for faculty on degree requirements, related technology, institutional policies and procedures, student support services, and opportunities for co-curricular activities. Represents the School and the Student Success Center in all College events which require a School of Business academic advising presence. Supports and enhances relationships across campus. Partners with College offices to ensure continuous improvement of the School of Business advising services and to facilitate student success.
