Position Description
The Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences and the Environmental and Sustainability Studies Program at the College of Charleston are jointly accepting applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Geosciences for the 2025-2026 academic year (Aug. 16, 2025 - May 15, 2026). The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Environmental Geosciences or a closely related field by the time of their appointment. The department is seeking a dedicated teacher-scholar with instructional experience who can engage students with diverse backgrounds in coursework and experiential learning in Environmental Geology (first semester of an introductory sequence with lab), Introduction to Environmental and Sustainability Studies, Introduction to Geospatial Science with lab and other courses as appropriate. Duties will include 12 credit hours (4 course equivalents) each semester. There are opportunities for professional development and scholarly engagement with interdepartmental colleagues and through the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning ( CETL ) and the Center for Sustainable Development at College of Charleston.
The Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences currently has 150 undergraduate students in the programs of Geology, Environmental Geosciences, and Geoinformatics and provides General Education lab science courses to 900 students every semester. The Environmental and Sustainability Studies Program has over 200 majors and minors. Both programs offer many topical and interdisciplinary elective courses and also contribute to the Honors College and the First-Year Experience programs. Our programs prioritize providing experiential learning opportunities to students in coursework and research.
