What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Tutor position at College of Eastern Idaho?
The Academic Support tutor is a temporary part-time position at the College of Eastern Idaho. Professional tutors provide non-classroom, academic instruction to students on an individual or small-group basis for proactive or remedial purposes. The professional tutor will be responsible for tutoring all levels of specified subject(s) taught at CEI.
Professional tutors will primarily support the subject they are hired to tutor, but may have to do administrative tasks such as facilitating when required to do so.

The position will primarily be staffed at College of Eastern Idaho main campus, but there may be times the incumbent will be required to tutor online over Zoom.
We are currently hiring for Writing, Math, and Science Tutors.Provide academic support to CEI students by:
Â
Provides educational assistance to students in subjects eligible to tutor, including the methods of studying and improving understanding and comprehension of subject matter content
May collaborate with faculty to provide embedded tutoring support in specific, designated courses
Works well in a team environment and may be required to take on a peer leadership position in the tutoring center when requested to do so
Hold scheduled appointments in-person at the tutoring space or online over Zoom
Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing relevant material
Meets and communicates with students in-person and via e-mail, canvas and other online platforms
Contributes to the preparation of workshops and materials that will enhance student understanding of coursework
Demonstrates professionalism, confidentiality, and communication skills in accordance with policies and procedures.
When required, tutor students in subjects you are qualified to tutor but is not on your Drop-In list of courses you primarily support
Ability to communicate knowledge of course content in a way that is meaningful to students
Ability to adapt to a variety of students with a wide range of abilities and diverse learning styles
Ability to demonstrate verbal and written command of the English language
Ability to attend and participate in monthly trainings and/or meetings. There will be a mandatory training the week before each semester begins
Proficient in computer usage and word processing, database and spreadsheet programs
Assist the Senior Tutoring Coordinator with administrative tasks as needed
Performs other duties as required or assigned by the Tutoring Coordinator
Establish and maintain program requirements by

Attend all mandatory trainings required for all student staff
Timely and complete submission of required paperwork for payroll and record-keeping (Web-time entry, verification forms)
Maintain confidentiality with students and uphold FERPA guidelines while working
Assist with certifications for the tutoring program and help complete all requirements related to the tutoring certification program
Timely and complete submission of support documentation

Performing related tasks and other duties as assigned by Senior Tutoring Coordinator
Keep updated office hours in Microsoft Outlook, contribute to student success outcomes and update profile
Checking emails daily and managing an Outlook calendar throughout the semesterMust have a degree from an accredited two-year or four-year college or university OR actively enrolled as a Full-Time student in a degree program from a two-year or four-year institution AND on pace to graduate from a two-year college within a year of hire date or graduate within two-years of hire date from a four-year university
Graduate students do not need to have an advanced degree (MFA, Masters, PhD) on their resume prior to being hired as a professional tutor, but must be actively enrolled as a part-time graduate student at an accredited university AND in academic good standing at their institution
Grade of A or B in the course being tutored OR documented work or educational experience equivalent to a grade of A or B in the course being tutored
Incumbent must reside in the State of Idaho (CEI doesn't currently sponsor H-1B visas)Course work in the same subject areas and above the level of courses being tutored
Previous experience tutoring from a two-year college or four-year university OR experience as a TA or instructor. Â (Note: Â Professional Experience working for a private tutoring company does not meet the minimum qualifications for this position)
Taken same College of Eastern Idaho class or equivalent class that is offered for tutoring to student. Â The class does not have to be taught by the same professor.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:Â Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. Â The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
Onsite work is essential and regular predictable attendance is required. Â Employees may be required to work at occasional events and handle tasks outside of regular working hours.Â
Background Investigations:Â Employment at College of Eastern Idaho will be contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation and may require a credit and/or motor vehicle background investigation depending on the position.
