Position HighlightsThe Phoenix Children's Research Institute at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is looking for a highly motivated and dedicated full-time Research Professional to join the Schimmel lab. The Schimmel lab is a translational research lab that focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of vascular diseases affecting the lung and the heart.
Current projects seek to identify the molecular basis of arteriovenous malformations using a new genetic mouse line, and tissue and blood samples from human patients with the genetic disease hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. Approaches make use of spatial omics, advanced imaging techniques such as 3D deep tissue staining, microCT, and synchrotron imaging, as well as bioinformatics analyses. The Schimmel lab has ongoing collaborations across multiple disciplines.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate effectively with team members while taking the lead on individual projects.
- Support research projects of lab members with routine wet lab work including Western Blots, qPCR, and histology.
- Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in the lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory.
- Apply the theories and methods of a life science discipline to interpret and perform analyses of experiment results; offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researcher.
- Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes; generate, analyze, evaluate and format data.
- Manage and maintain mouse lines, perform genotyping and experimental procedures as needed.
- Responsible for general lab operations and maintenance; maintain lab stock, manage inventories and safety records.
- Assist in maintaining and updating institutional protocols and experimental standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Assist with ensuring regulatory compliance of the lab; maintain records of controlled substances. Package waste material and arrange for disposal.
- Adhere to best practices in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and maintain laboratory cleanliness.
- Participate in equipment upkeep: sterilize, clean, operate, maintain, troubleshoot equipment and instruments, and provide general lab support as needed.
- Assist with onboarding and orientation process of new staff or students.
- Train staff or students in the operation of equipment, in lab procedures and techniques.
- Contribute to publication of findings as needed.
- Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
- Present research findings at scientific meetings.
- Ability to manage general lab operations and maintenance.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Mouse handling skills.
- Ability to quickly pick up concepts and technical skills in the lab, and to follow scientific protocols.

Salary : $53,039 - $66,299
