What are the responsibilities and job description for the Central Sterile Processing/Surgical Technology Instructor position at College of Southern Idaho?
The Central Sterile Processing/Surgical Technology Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and operating the Central Sterile Processing curriculum designed to prepare students for certification and employment in Central Service/Sterile Processing. This faculty member will be responsible for preparing students for certification and employment in the field while ensuring high-quality instruction aligned with industry standards. Additionally, the faculty member will assist with Surgical Technology clinical coordination duties as assigned by the Surgical Technology Program Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Central Sterile Processing Instruction & Program Management:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the Central Sterile Processing curriculum in alignment with industry and accreditation standards.
- Provide engaging and effective instruction.
- Ensure students gain the necessary knowledge and skills to pass certification exams and succeed in the workforce.
- Maintain program accreditation and compliance with all relevant governing bodies.
- Collaborate with advisory boards, employers, and industry partners to ensure the curriculum meets workforce needs.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing support and resources to foster success.
- Maintain accurate records related to student performance, clinical site requirements, and program outcomes.
- Assist in student recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.
Surgical Technology Clinical Coordination:
- Support the Surgical Technology Program Manager by assisting with clinical site coordination, including scheduling and compliance tracking.
- Serve as a liaison between students, clinical sites, and faculty to ensure effective communication and successful clinical experiences.
- Assist in monitoring student performance during clinical rotations and provide necessary feedback and guidance.
- Ensure adherence to program and institutional policies related to clinical education.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Teach a minimum semester credit load established by the department best practices in loading and assigning coursework.
- Devote full-time hours per week to the institution, maintain appropriate office hours as determined by college policy, and bring to the attention of the immediate supervisor any conditions which might affect employment.
- Devise and utilize outcomes assessment measures.
- Participate fully in all departmental, program-level, and college-level assessment activities.
- Meet all scheduled classes promptly with any deviation being filed promptly and accurately through the appropriate channels.
- Provide current copies of course syllabi to chairperson each semester.
- Monitor student placement in courses and student progress; maintain accurate records.
- Interact with and advise students.
- Participate in faculty development to improve professional effectiveness including the professional development opportunities provided by the Teaching and Learning Center. This includes full participation in the August Learning Lab and the College of Southern Idaho on-boarding practices and activities.
- Participate in instructional evaluation processes.
- Attend department meetings and committee meetings as appropriate.
- Recommend textbook adoptions in collaboration with other faculty in the department.
- Promote and help with learning assistance services.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Surgical Technology Program Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Central Sterile Processing, Surgical Technology, or a related field
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or equivalent credential preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Central Sterile Processing or a related field.
- Teaching experience in a post-secondary or clinical education setting preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and industry partners.
