What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fine Arts Technology Coordinator position at College of Southern Idaho?
Performs a variety of tasks associated with campus functions and events that include Audio/Visual and support services:
- Operates, maintains, and safeguards the technical assets of the Fine Arts Auditorium, Theatre, and other venues. Duties include supervising the use and maintenance of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and stage facilities.
- Determines the appropriate technical support such as lighting, sound, staging, and unique needs, necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates.
- Designs, sets up, maintains, and operates lighting and sound systems for theatre, dance, music, and other productions and projects; assists guest designers and arts with technical matters.
- Advises production managers, lighting and sound designers, on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show and supervises the implementations of approved technical designs.
- Orients facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics, and other areas of facility operations; facilitates the use of the technical facilities by the resident company and others engaged by or renting the facility.
- Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.
- Attends technical rehearsals to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of upcoming productions.
- Assist in budget preparation and make recommendations to CSI administration regarding purchases of technical equipment.
- Provides technical assistance to other CSI operating units and facilities as time permits.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
UNIQUE FUNCTIONS
- Regularly works without supervision.
- Assists in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff for individual shows.
- Oversee both CSI and guest production stage crews and volunteers.
SPECIFIC SKILLS AND TECNICHAL EXPERTISE REQUIRED
- Ability to provide technical support in wide range of productions such as musical, theatrical, dance, speakers, etc.
- Working understanding and ability to safely design and implement wide range of systems such as sound, audio, video, streaming, stage setup, and stage management.
- Ability to communicate and work well in a group environment. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of various groups, vendors, co-workers, and others.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for upcoming events and performances.
- A desire and ability to expand areas of expertise in technical systems.
- Experience working with computers; PC, Mac, tablets, etc.
- Experience with contemporary design and theatrical presentation software, i.e. Vectorworks, Q-Lab, Sketch-up, etc.
- General knowledge of low-voltage electronics and ability to diagnose problems.
EDUCATION/ TRAINING REQUIRED
- High School Degree or Equivalent
- Associate’s degree Preferred
- Requires two years of experience in AV production environment or equivalent experience/education.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work non-traditional hours that include evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to accommodate irregular schedule with long workdays and varying days off.
- Must be able to work under pressure and maintain composure
