Description
The role of the Distance Education Support Specialist is to provide support for faculty, staff, and students within the Learning Management System and with instructional technologies. This position will work collaboratively with Distance Education staff to provide high-quality instructional support services to a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
The Distance Education Support Specialist receives supervision from the Director, Distance Education Programs.
Examples of Duties
- Provide end-user support to faculty, staff, and students to include troubleshooting for learning management system and other instructional technologies within the help desk support system.
- Research and test the latest instructional tools and approaches that focus on various technologies.
- Assist with training and support sessions.
- Create step-by-step instructional technology support documents as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Required:
- Associate's degree in Instructional Technology, Computer Information Systems, Instructional Technology, or related subject from a regionally accredited college or university.
- One year experience in a professional office environment.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including fluency in a variety of software applications such as Google Suite, Office 365, and web conferencing.
- Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution in Instructional Technology, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, or related subject.
- Previous work experience in an educational institution.
- Previous experience with a Learning Management System (Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.).
- Experience with instructional technologies such as Lecture Capture (Mediasite), Exam Creation (Respondus), Plagiarism Detection (Turnitin and Copyleaks), Student Information System (Colleague), Web Conferencing (Collaborate and Zoom), Accessibility Checker (Ally), and Analytics/Reporting (IntelliBoard).

- Provide excellent customer service, establish appropriate boundaries with individuals, and demonstrate innovation and flexibility when working with others.
Special Notes:
- Onsite work is preferred at COA - Elizabeth City, but remote work may be considered for highly qualified candidates. The work schedule expectations are Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am-4:30pm(EST) in a collaborative environment within a virtual office.
