What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welding Technology Instructor position at College of the Canyons?
College of the Canyons is seeking a faculty leader in the area of Welding Technology. This is a 10-MONTH professional, full-time tenure track position beginning August 15, 2025. The position may include a combination of teaching, department, college, and community leadership functions. Assignment may include day, evening, and weekend duties at all District sites.
Example of Duties
- Teaches a full load of courses in welding and/or metal fabrication offered at multiple locations, including our main and satellite campus locations.
- Instructs students, evaluates and records student progress in attaining course aligned goals and objectives.
- Directs, markets, and coordinates outreach activities for the Welding program and manages student persistence and retention.
- Fosters student safety awareness, industry skills obtainment and program completion.
- Promotes and maintains the AWS SENSE (American Welding Society Schools Excelling through National School Standards Education) entry-level curricula in all applicable welding courses.
- Promotes and maintains National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) curricula in all applicable welding courses.
- Obtains relevant industry credentials as required to support current and innovative programs offered in the Welding Technology department.
- Ensures compliance with accreditation standards of regional and national accrediting agencies.
- Ensures the adherence to safe and appropriate work practices and procedures at all times.
- Uses, with proficiency metal fabrication equipment such as: manual milling machines & lathes, pneumatic and hydraulic shears, tube bending machines, and CNC plasma cutting machines.
- Uses, with proficiency, precision and conventional measuring tools and equipment.
- Interprets basic-to-complex prints and drawings.
- Develops and revises appropriate credit and noncredit program and course curriculum in response to discipline and workforce needs.
- Maintains office hours and participates in department, division, and college committees and governance.
- Participates in departmental and college program reviews.
- Participates in providing feedback to the Welding department Business & Leadership Team (BLT).
- Participates in additional faculty responsibilities, including college decision-making activities related to professional and academic matters. The activities will occur within the department as well as in the larger College setting and at all district campuses.
- Engages in ongoing professional development and preparation related to best practices associated with pedagogy, andragogy, and all instructional (including virtual) teaching modalities to address anticipated student and instructional delivery needs.
- Participates in all course, program and institutional Student Learning Outcome (SLO) assessment processes.
- Participates in outreach efforts to attract new students into the program.
- Assists with scheduling, evaluation, and mentoring of adjunct faculty.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Minimum Requirements
Possession of a California Community College Instructor Credential in Welding Technology.
OR
- Bachelor’s degree or higher plus two years of full-time equivalent professional experience in engineering, manufacturing/ industrial technology, or closely related field, or the equivalent.
OR
- Associate degree plus six years of full-time equivalent of professional experience in engineering, manufacturing/ industrial technology or closely related field, or the equivalent.
Required License/Certification
Must be maintained throughout the course of employment.
Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Structural Steel Welder Certification – Manual
- Proof of current certification is required
