Description

The Faculty, Exceptional Student Education position is a full-time, 10-month Faculty position. This position is an instructional position with duties and responsibilities which are established in accordance with State Board of Education Rules and Board of Trustee policies. Teaching assignments may include various general education, exceptional student education, early childhood education, education foundations, reading, or teaching English to speakers of other languages courses. Hours will vary according to class schedules. This position maintains a 37.5-hour week and reports to the Dean, Arts and Hospitality. All instructors are responsible for utilizing the College's learning management system as all College courses are at a minimum technology-enhanced.

Examples of Duties

1. Plans, organizes and instructs assigned courses to promote student success.

2. Maintains required office hours to provide assistance to students and communication with administration.

3. Responsible for evaluating student learning and objective achievement and providing feedback.

4. Selects appropriate materials and equipment for discipline or program use and ensures proper care and safety in their use.

5. Adheres to and enforces the administrative policies and procedures of the College.

6. Works with other Faculty to evaluate and revise existing courses and to develop new courses.

7. Assists in implementing College policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the College Mission Statement.

8. Participates and assists with accreditation efforts as assigned by supervisor.

9. Responsible for keeping current in the discipline or program areas taught.

10. Participates in staff and committee work.

11. Attends College-wide academic and staff meetings and academic official functions.

12. Maintains good relationships with community agencies and groups and participates as appropriate.

13. Participates in Institutional Planning and Budget process.

14. Assists in all College recruitment and retention efforts as appropriate.

15. Attends Graduation / Commencement ceremonies.

16. Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills :

  • Understanding of, and commitment to, Equal Access / Equal Opportunity.

Education and Qualifications :

  • One (1) year of teaching experience at the community college level or higher, preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience working in exceptional student education in prekindergarten through grade 12, required.
  • Training in clinical supervision, required.
  • One of the following is required : Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Special Education or Exceptional Student Education. OR, Doctorate in Education with a concentration in Special Education or Exceptional Student Education. OR, Doctorate in Special Education or Exceptional Student Education. OR, Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Education, or Early Childhood Education with 18 graduate credits in Special Education or Exceptional Student Education.
  • A comparable amount of training, education, or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

  • ESE Professional Certificate, preferred.

    MEDICAL - The College offers full-time employees a choice of Medical Insurance plans and pays the full cost of employee premiums. Dependent coverage is available at a group rate through payroll deduction. Available plans include a traditional PPO and a High-Deductible PPO attached to a Health Savings Account.

    DENTAL AND VISION - Voluntary dental and vision insurance is offered through payroll deduction.

    LIFE INSURANCE - The College provides each employee with term life insurance payable to a beneficiary at the rate of one times (1x) the employee's annual salary rounded up to the next thousand up to a maximum of $50,000. Accidental Death and Dismemberment is provided at one times (1x) the employee's annual salary rounded up to the next thousand up to a maximum of $50,000.

    SUPPLEMENTAL LIFE AND AD&D INSURANCE - Additional life and AD&D insurance are available for purchase through payroll deduction.

    SUPPLEMENTAL HEALTH INSURANCE AND SHORT TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE FROM AFLAC - Supplemental Health Insurance including Hospital Income Protection, Accident and Disability Income, Cancer, Critical Illness plans and Short Term Disability insurance are available through payroll deduction.

    TAX SHELTERED SAVINGS PROGRAMS (403 B) - Tax sheltered annuity and custodial account programs are available with various companies through payroll deduction.

    FLORIDA RETIREMENT SYSTEM - Full-time and regular part-time employees participate in the Florida Retirement System (FRS). The College contributes the current retirement percentage of the individual's salary, and the employee would contribute the current retirement percentage based on their salary. Employees may choose the Pension Plan or the Investment Plan.

    PAID TUITION - Tuition fees for credit courses taken at the College are waived for employees and their eligible dependents, including domestic partners. Tuition and student fees are waived for non-credit physical education courses. Contingent upon approval, $1,000 reimbursement is available each fiscal year through Staff & Program Development (S&PD), for completion of course work toward a degree which results in demonstrated benefit to the College.
