Position Summary:
The Coordinator supports the Director of Student Support Services and the Student Disability Services team in developing and implementing programs that ensure compliance with Section 504, the ADAAA, and other relevant laws. This role provides direct services to students with disabilities while contributing to office policies, procedures, programming, and advising to foster a welcoming and supportive campus environment.
Essential Functions:
- Conducts the interactive process with students and assists with accommodation reviews.
- Coordinates and manages reasonable accommodations following the ADA.
- Oversees Assistive Technology, researching upgrades, recommending purchases, and training students in its use.
- Manages Alternate Format requests, ensuring timely access to electronic, audio, braille, and large-print materials.
- Supports students academically, monitoring progress and providing guidance.
- Collaborates with campus resources, faculty, and community partners to enhance support and outreach.
- Maintains confidential student records within an accessible information management system.
- Independently problem-solves complex situations, while also being able to work well in a team environment.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Travels between campuses to ensure equitable access to services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in special education, social sciences, psychology, rehabilitation, or a related field, or three years of equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of disabilities, assistive technology, and experience in higher education.
- Familiarity with Section 504, ADA (1990, Amended 2010), and relevant laws.
- Experience assessing disability documentation and determining accommodations.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, organization, and computer skills, including assistive technology applications.
- Passion for working with individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
