Opportunities Academy Instructional Coach


The Instructional Coach plays a pivotal role in the success of Opportunities Academy as we ensure that teaching in all classrooms and internships is excellent and preparing scholars to live independently, obtain employment and self advocate. This teammate will lead a model classroom or internship space for half of the day and instructional coach for the second half of the day.

Founded in 2008, Collegiate Academies serves over 3,000 students in five public high schools and two postsecondary programs in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. We serve a dramatically higher proportion of students with special needs, students who are English language learners, and students who are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Responsibilities:

Teacher & Job Coach Coaching and Development

  • Lead teach a model classroom or internship space that can be observed by other teammates as part of development. This includes strong prep, implementing strategies from the CA playbook (Key 3, narration, etc) and collecting and responding to data regularly in alignment with OA’s Vision for Excellent Instructional Spaces.
  • Develop a group of 2-3 teachers and 8-12 Job Coaches(JCs) using the coaching model determined by the School Leader to ensure teachers and JCs grow quickly.
  • Achieve results using the highest leverage tools you have, including but not limited to: real-time coaching, debriefing with teachers, co-planning lessons, lesson plan review, and data meetings.
  • Focus on results using academic data (daily exit ticket data, task analysis data) and observational data (aligned to the Collegiate Academies Rubric for Excellent Teaching- CARET).
  • Develop teachers in planning rigorous PATH goal aligned unit and lesson plans with their students that focus on application in the real word and multiple rounds of practice.
  • Coach teachers across classroom levels, experience levels, and needs, from unit planning to lesson planning, rigor, execution, prompting hierarchy, behavior management, classroom culture, etc.
  • Coach job coaches around prompting hierarchy, behavior management, restrooming support, behavior intervention plan impelementation and instructional priorities.
  • Support teachers and job coaches in non-classroom skills needed to be successful: time management, organization, and self-awareness and self-management.


Professional Development

  • Execute Professional Development sessions with fidelity and excellence.
  • Develop new Professional Development based on needs you identify within your teacher and job coach coachees.

  • Build adult culture by modeling our agreements and values aligned choices. Make the choice consistently to affirm for showing our agreements and remind teammates if they aren’t making the choice yet to model them.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3 years of teaching experience and 1 years of experience coaching teachers preferred.
