Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach

GW Athletics is seeking one (1) Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach to assist in the daily operations of a collegiate strength and conditioning department beginning in the Fall of 2025.

The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to be a collegiate S&C coach and will possess a strong work ethic, high character values, and a willingness to learn and grow. Candidates must be accepted into a graduate program at GW before they are eligible for selection.

This position reports directly to the Assistant Athletic Director / Director of Strength & Conditioning and the Associate Athletic Director / Student-Athlete Health, Well-being, and Performance. This position will be a two-year appointment dependent on maintaining good academic standing and progress as well as being a growing member of the Performance team. A large emphasis will be placed on developing the skills needed to progress to the next level as a collegiate strength & conditioning coach.

Responsibilities include :

Under the guidance of the Director of Strength & Conditioning, the Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for assisting with operating a collegiate strength and conditioning department. The goal of this position is to immerse one in all aspects of running a collegiate strength and conditioning department and to prepare the Graduate Assistant Coach for a full-time coaching position at the college or high school level.

  • Develops, implements, and monitors sport-specific strength training programs and sport-specific speed, agility, and conditioning programs for teams and individual athletes.
  • Works in partnership with administration, coaching staff, and athletic training staff to provide an integrated program of injury reduction and performance training.
  • Monitors the weight room and safe lifting techniques of student athletes when possible.
  • Operates / oversees social media accounts for the strength and conditioning department.
  • Meets with potential student athletes in the recruiting process.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Director of Strength & Conditioning.

Required Certifications / Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications :

One or more of the following certifications : SCCC, CSCS, USAW. Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Current CPR and AED certification. Acceptance into a George Washington University Graduate Program (MS in Strength & Conditioning preferred).

Preferred Qualifications :

Undergrad in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field. Previous coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or professional setting. Ability to demonstrate and teach strength training movements, running mechanics, and change of direction mechanics. Candidate will possess a good work ethic, attention to detail, ability to manage sensitive and confidential student information, and a familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Proficiency in social media. Strong communication skills. Ability to critically think and learn in a fast-paced environment. Experience with TeamBuildr Strength & Conditioning software.

Compensation :

18,000 stipend in monthly installments from September through May. Tuition (9 credits per semester, Fall & Spring), books, & fees included.
