Under limited supervision, plans, coordinates, delivers and evaluates occupational and transition education and services at the school or system level in conjunction with other educators, families, students and representatives of community organizations; performs related professional and administrative duties as required. Reports to the Director of Special Services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Participates as the District’s occupational education representative in IEP meetings for students with disabilities, age 13 to age 21.
Provides consultation and information to middle and high school staff, parents and/or students with disabilities regarding occupational / transition services and curriculum, including occupational education, school-to-work, job skills, transition and career exploration programs and services.
Assists in coordinating and implementing the assessment and evaluation of students’ occupational / transition needs; coordinates process with special education teachers, job coaches, guidance counselors, school psychologists and school-to-work personnel, as well as interagency and private service providers.
Provides occupational / transition counseling and/or instruction to students with disabilities.
Assists with the coordination of transportation for students with occupational / transition needs.
Assists in monitoring District compliance and reports pertaining to occupation / transition services.
Assists in coordinating services for expelled students with disabilities.
Serves on selected committees relating to occupation / transition services and education as appropriate.
Compiles data for and prepares various statistical, administrative and professional reports as required by the District and/or other agencies.
Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints regarding issues, programs, policies and procedures in areas of responsibility.
Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, scanner, typewriter, fax machine, copier, calculator, telephone, etc.; uses clerical, copier, computer supplies.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, coworkers,school teachers and principals, other District administrators and staff, medical / health professionals, various committees, various government agencies, members of the business community, parents, students and the general public.
Attends training, conferences, workshops, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
Performs routine administrative/office tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, sending and receiving faxes, entering and retrieving computer data, etc.
Performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a Master’s degree in education supplemented by two to three years of experience in occupational/transition education or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid S.C. Teaching Certificate. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
