Job Summary
Leads a crew of workers engaged in operating equipment and performing maintenance work associated with various projects within an assigned division of the County.
Essential Functions
• Leads a crew of workers in operating equipment and performing maintenance work associated with various projects within an assigned Department/Division of the County. • Provides direction, training, and assistance to employees; coordinates daily work activities; organizes and prioritizes workload; makes work assignments and evaluates work; monitors the status of work; troubleshoots problem situations. • Assists in ensuring adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure the safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations; coordinates activities to maintain safety and traffic control at work sites, including flagging of traffic and setup of safety cones, barricades, and road/warning signs; reports accidents, injuries, and other incidents. • Assists in coordinating, prioritizing, scheduling, and overseeing projects; reviews or issues work orders; provides input on special projects; assists in determining and coordinating necessary equipment, materials, and manpower to conduct projects; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; dispatches crew members, vehicles, or equipment to work sites as needed; reports damage/vandalism, potentially hazardous/dangerous situations, or other problems to supervisor; responds to problems or emergency situations. • Monitor work conducted by contractors; inspect work to ensure quality and compliance with terms of contracts. • Oversees and assists in performing various tasks involving water utilities maintenance and water distribution systems projects; schedules, coordinates, and conducts physical locates of utility services; coordinates maintenance, repair, and installation of water/sewer service lines/mains; replaces older/worn service lines with new upgraded service lines; installs new water main; installs, repairs, and replaces sample stations; installs, repairs or replaces flushing stations; monitors water quality; performs field testing of water samples; installs, repairs, or replaces valves; coordinates rebuilding and maintenance of pumps and related components; restores roads, sidewalks, and other work sites to original condition after completion of work; • Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment. • Transports, loads, and unloads equipment and materials used in projects; transports crew workers to/from work sites. • Monitors inventory levels of supplies and materials; ensures availability of adequate supplies, tools, and materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials; obtains competitive bids and price quotes. • Performs administrative tasks; provides budgetary input; reviews logs/forms completed by staff members; develops work schedules to ensure adequate coverage; reviews timecards and research discrepancies; prepares payroll documents and forwards for payment.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two (2) years of related experience.
- Fingerprinting required.

- Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
- Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
