Essential Functions
Performs various tasks involving water utilities maintenance projects; maintains buildings, machinery, and pipes at water plants and outlying stations; troubleshoots routine electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and other plant problems; performs pigging/swabbing at wellfields and flushes the system; repairs, maintains, calibrates, and tests equipment; performs wellfield drawdowns; resets telemetry systems; removes and replaces high service and chemical pumps; operates belt presses and flushes sludge lines.
Individuals hired into temporary positions for a period of less than six months, volunteers and interns are not benefit eligible. Temporary employees hired for longer than six months may be eligible for Florida Retirement System Benefits as well as others required by law.

- Responds to after-hours emergency calls when scheduled for on-call duty; repairs main/service breaks; evaluates service calls, determines amount of water loss, and determines needed manpower, equipment, parts, and materials; determines need to request location of utility services; flushes systems after repairs; requests bacteria samples from laboratory.
- Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
- Prepares, completes and/or receives various forms, reports, correspondence, checklists, work orders, billing reports, purchase requisitions, valve isolation forms, valve maintenance forms, water line damage reports, water loss reports, backflow test/inspection reports, backflow installation reports, data recorder sheets, pump activity reports, lift station sheets, maintenance reports, charts, timecards, leave requests, or other documents.
- Communicates with supervisor, employees, other divisions, contractors, utility companies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- High school diploma or GED* required.
- One (1) year of related experience.
- Fingerprinting Required.
- General Educational Development (GEDs) must be issued by the American Council on Education through an approved GED Administrator. For Florida, the approved GED Administrator would be the Florida Department of Education (public schools or adult education centers).
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
- Must complete the Sacramento Water Distribution Operator correspondence course within 6 months of hire.
- Must possess Backflow Prevention Testing & Assembly certification within 6 months of hire.
- Must possess a valid Class 3 Water Distribution Technician certification within 18 months of hire.
- Must possess and maintain IMSA Work Zone Safety certification, and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Traffic Safety in the Work Area certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
- Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
- Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
