What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tradesworker - Specialist I HVAC position at Collier County?
Performs tasks associated with the HVAC trade; maintains, repairs, retrofits, and installs heating, air-conditioning, refrigeration, boiler, chiller, and dehumidifier equipment for all county building facilities; recovers refrigerants from cooling systems; ensures energy systems are operating efficiently.
Assist with troubleshooting compressors, valves, heat pumps, various motors and fans, duct work, computerized controls, and other electrical parts; cleans drainage pans and coils; fabricates parts as needed.
Performs tasks associated with the plumbing and pipefitters trade; repairs steam lines; replaces and/or repairs valves, pneumatic controls, steam traps, and hot water heaters; clears clogged water and sewer lines; installs and/or replaces plumbing fixtures.
Assists pipefitters and refrigeration mechanics in testing and adjusting flow rates, temperatures, air quantities, and pressures in ventilation, refrigeration, and water systems, in cutting and threading pipe, in making up pipe joints, and in maintaining drainage and waste piping.
Performs tasks associated with the electrical trade; replaces incandescent lamps, fluorescent tubes, starters, and ballast in a wide variety of lighting fixtures; assists with installing and/or removing lights and receptacles; maintains, repairs, and installs electrical motors and generators, switches, and electrically operated doors.
Assists electricians in cutting and threading conduit, pulling wire, and hanging fixtures; takes electrical meter readings and traces circuits; cleans light fixtures; cuts and prepares metal shapes for use in hanging electrical devices.
Performs various welding tasks associated with construction, repair, and maintenance throughout the County; repairs broken or cracked parts, welds pipes and fittings, welds metal parts together, increases the size of metal parts, and fabricates special parts and apparatus.
Receives work orders and performs work functions under the supervision of upper tradespersons.
Performs assigned construction, maintenance, and/or repair tasks associated with seasonal, special event, and/or daily operation of the County; retrieves tools for and assists skilled and semi-skilled workers as necessary; sets up appropriate signage to warn of hazards.
Obtains, prepares, and delivers materials to the job site for installation; sets up and works from a variety of ladders and scaffolding; keeps workers supplied with materials and tools; responds to directions from experienced tradespersons.
Responds to service and emergency calls for simple repairs or adjustment tasks; takes action to limit further damage to facilities.
Performs general labor tasks such as digging trenches, laying sod and landscaping, collecting trash measuring, cutting and producing boards, storm damage clean-up.
Gathers, transports, loads, and unloads various equipment, tools, and materials used on projects or at worksites; follows all safety precautions necessary in operating equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Cleans, services, and/or operates a variety of hand and power tools, machinery, and equipment as prescribed by trade apprenticeship training standards; cleans and maintains shop areas, work sites, and storage areas.
- Five (5) months of related experience.
- Fingerprinting required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
- Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
- Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
