Are you a seasoned Software Engineer with a passion for leadership? As the Manager of the Software Team for IMS Sensing & Controls, you’ll lead a team of talented engineers while also contributing directly to software development efforts. This role blends hands-on engineering with people leadership—providing career mentorship, fostering technical excellence, and driving process improvements to enhance quality and efficiency.

In this dynamic position, you'll support cutting-edge technologies, including Fuel Sensing Systems, HUMS (Health and Usage Management Systems), Proximity Sensing, and Actuation products, as well as the test equipment that ensures their success. You’ll play a critical role in talent development, recruitment, and training while also performing software development and verification activities to support key programs. What You Will Do:

  • Manage the junior level team members and work to identify skills and development needs and enact plans for them to grow and develop their skills within the team
  • Development SW V&V skills and tools proficiency
  • Provide guidance to direct reports on application of the Software Development Process across the Life Cycle activities for Software Development Programs
  • Focus on Talent and Skills development
  • Lead the on-boarding and training new hires/interns
  • Support recruitment and hiring activities to fill open requisitions
  • Develop and improve the ever-changing new hire onboarding materials
  • Help develop a pipeline of new team members to cover the expected attrition of the senior team members and prepare to scale to new programs
  • Work with the Senior Manager to review the SW Discipline DHA/Skills Matrix, identify skills gaps/needs and develop/provide training as required
  • Work with the Chief’s Office to support improvement activities
  • Review, provide input and support the implementation of Lessons Learned activities
  • Perform Software Development & Verification Life Cycle activities to support program in need of additional software support or leadership

  • Strategic Process Improvement & Quality Enhancement – Play a key role in refining software development processes, driving efficiency, and implementing lessons learned to elevate team performance
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Impact – Work alongside engineering leaders, program managers, and technical experts to influence high-stakes aerospace projects and contribute to mission-critical solutions

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires University Degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • 5 years software/system/product development experience in one of these areas
  • Experience leading a technical team (e.g. in the role of tech lead) Experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle
  • Strong engineering development discipline and process advocacy
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience leading engineering teams through project leadership roles or direct supervision
  • Proficiency in software development and integration, particularly with embedded C and Ada codebases
  • Practical experience in all phases of the software/system/product development lifecycle
  • Familiarity with standard NI LabView or TestStand
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Coaching, teaching, and/or mentoring skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence skills (i.e. self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social awareness, relationship management)
  • Experience in creation or improvement of engineering development processes
  • Excellent track record for working effectively and collaboratively in a diverse team environment

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
