A successful Commercial Lines Senior Account Manager is a proactive and experienced professional adept at leading client interactions and managing complex insurance portfolios. This individual accompanies Producers on client visits and independently handles meetings, consulting clients on coverage, exclusions, and exposures while effectively rounding out accounts to obtain new lines of business. They excel in preparing comprehensive proposals, conducting coverage, and pricing analyses, and implementing tailored placement strategies with carrier partners. The Senior Account Manager maintains proactive service schedules, manages client concerns, and ensures adherence to operational procedures and industry regulations. With strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with a commitment to continuous professional development and team leadership, they drive client satisfaction, business growth, and operational excellence within the commercial lines segment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Accompanies Producers and team on client visits including renewals and new business, at times handling meetings with clients on their own
- Consults, informs, and educates clients about coverage, exclusions, and exposures, documenting the account in agency management system
- Rounds out accounts from clients and follows through to obtain new lines of business
- Maintains Pro-active service schedule making sure new business and renewal timelines met
- Completes new business and renewal proposal and presentation according to agency standards
- Prepares summaries of insurance schedules and proposals for account reviews as needed
- On renewals, may contact clients, and follow up in conjunction with Producers
- Completes marketing on own book of business with carrier partners and will identify, design, and implement placement strategies for the client, encompassing new products and services, identification and selection of target markets, and tailored/unique coverages
- Effective in handling challenging coverage issues and market placements
- Coverage and pricing analysis, calculating rates, exposure basis, etc. for all lines of coverage. Proactively set up cost and exposure comparisons on client accounts year after year
- Manages client concerns, facilitates a productive and amicable working relationship
- Develop and maintain a positive relationship and rapport with carrier partners to satisfy our clients’ needs and facilitate the process of new and renewal business
- Sets priorities and manages workflow within the team to ensure efficient, prompt, and accurate processing of transactions and responsibilities
- Ensures that systems, operational procedures, and company regulations are adhered to on client accounts
- Pursues professional studies and keeps familiarity with trends in the industry and with new insurance products
- Participates and engages in internal team meetings
- Aids in the training and development of members of the team
- Proactively meets with the Producers on a regular basis to review and address accounts items
- Participates in and represents agencies in carrier meetings and events
- Communicate and build relationships with people outside the agency (clients, carriers, etc.)
- Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships
- Organizing, planning, and prioritizing job responsibilities
- Identify and solve complex insurance coverage problems or gaps
- Understand, review, and analyze insurance policies and forms verifying accuracy
Required Qualifications
- Holds an MI Property and Casualty license
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience managing large and captive commercial accounts
- Bachelor’s Degree, or combined equivalent of education and experience
- CISR, CIC, CRM Professional designation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel, with the ability to effectively use these tools for data entry, document creation, and formatting

Additional Details
- The location of the role will be in person in our Grand Rapids, Michigan office
- Hours for the role is as follows: 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday – Thursday, 8:00am – 4:30pm Friday (Memorial Day through Labor Day we close at 4:00pm on Friday)
- Reporting relationship will be to the Chief of Planning and Operations
