Summary
The Lawrence County Joint Vocational School District seeks a PLTW Biomedical Science Teacher to deliver high-quality, STEM-based instruction at Lawrence County high schools. This position is vital in preparing students for careers in biomedical sciences, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary for success. The ideal candidate will possess strong teaching abilities, classroom management skills, and a passion for technical education and STEM learning.
Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery:
- Design and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with Project Lead The Way (PLTW) biomedical science curriculum.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies to support diverse learning styles.
- Incorporate hands-on learning experiences and lab-based instruction.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
Classroom Management:
- Establish clear expectations and maintain an organized, well-managed classroom.
- Implement discipline strategies that promote student engagement and accountability.
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing feedback and support.
- Keep accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with other career technical instructors, school administrators, and district personnel to ensure curriculum alignment.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and district staff regarding student progress and program updates.
- Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and meetings.
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow school, district, and industry safety guidelines in classroom and lab environments.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment, tools, and learning resources.
- Stay up to date on relevant regulations, certifications, and best practices in biomedical sciences.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Five years of experience in a related field or a licensed 9-12 math or science teacher.
- Expertise in biomedical sciences, STEM, or career technical education.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong instructional and classroom management abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple educational environments.
- Passion for STEM education and preparing students for future careers. Other
Requirements:
- Must meet all state and district health requirements (e.g., negative tuberculosis test).
- Must pass background checks from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI) and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
- Availability to work a flexible schedule across different school buildings.
