Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise above-water and underwater bridge and ancillary structure evaluation and hands on inspection.
- Be familiar and competent with the use of MI Bridge program for MDOT.
- Review, analyze, and provide recommendations on field and/or design issues or adaptations.
- Prepare and monitor project budgets and assists in proposal preparation.
- Accountable for project schedules and timely completion of projects.
- Responsible for standard and intermediate challenging engineering projects in field or office in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Perform simple and complex engineering computations and estimates related to inspection projects and rehabilitation plans.
- Prepare complete engineering plans or reports meeting MDOT design guidelines.
- Direct and supervise the work of entry-level engineers, technicians, drafters, and administrative staff.
- Coach field staff on the purpose and processes of inspections and inspection techniques.
- Make independent decisions within a general framework.
- Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
- Demonstrated bridge design experience a plus.
- Field work required, which could include nights and weekends.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited four-year university.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of bridge inspection experience a plus.
- Must have passed the NHI/FHWA Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course.
- Must be currently certified by MDOT as a Qualified Team Leader.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification preferred.
- NICET certification preferred.
- Valid Michigan driver's license.
