25-26 School Year

Summary: Teaches core academic subjects at various levels focusing on reading; works collaboratively with staff and is responsible for assisting in the planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating support services to students; provides individualized and small group Title I services for qualifying students.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction to individuals and small groups of students.
  • Assists in the supervision of the school-wide reading intervention program, including ensuring that paraprofessional support is aligned with student needs and overall program goals.
  • Provides inclusive and pull-out support to students.
  • Works collaboratively with Principal, Literacy Specialist, general education, and special education staff to create a learning environment designed to address the needs of a wide range of student abilities.
  • Provides screening, monitoring; and diagnostic services for students and staff.
  • Provides reading guidance and support for staff.
  • Provides opportunities to create parent awareness and training for program and home support skills.
  • Participates in the school improvement process.
  • All other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance to paraprofessionals in the school-wide intervention program.

  • Education and/or Experience: Master's degree or equivalent preferred; Reading Specialist degree preferred; Five (5) years elementary classroom experience.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Michigan teaching certificate and Reading Specialist degree or endorsement desired.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and the public.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to gather, create, and interpret data for staff and parents.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardized test data may be available. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions given in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional program. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on intervention program and the needs of students. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes and carts. Specific vision abilities of this job required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust and focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the staff and public.
