The Coloma Township Police Department is accepting applications for fulltime Patrol Officer. Coloma Township is a beautiful community on Paw Paw Lake in Berrien County between St. Joseph and South Haven and is located minutes from Lake Michigan. The Coloma Township Police Department patrols an area of approximately 20 square miles with a population of about 6,000 and is a wonderful place to live and work. Benefits include:

· Starting pay is $24.21/hour-$31.56/hours ($50,356.80/$65,644.80), depending on experience. 3 or more years as a certified law enforcement officer starting pay is $30.57 Hr. and after 1 year with department pay goes to $31.56 Hr to increase to $32.35 on 4/1/2025.

· Municipal Employees’ Retirement System (MERS) Health Care Savings Plan.

· MERS B3 (2.25% multiplier) retirement plan with 80% maximum benefit.

· $100,000 life insurance policy.

· Eleven paid holidays.

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

· U.S. Citizen.

· 21 years of age or older.

· Must meet Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) minimum qualifications.

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

· Successfully pass psychological exam, drug screening, and medical exam (including vision and hearing).

· Must be certified or certifiable as a police officer in the State of Michigan at the time of application submission.

· Must maintain certification as a law enforcement officer with MCOLES.

· Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Operator’s License and satisfactory driving record.

· Must possess good moral character as determined by a comprehensive background investigation including, but not limited to, driving and criminal records checks.

· No prior convictions for any felony, domestic violence, or substantially similar conviction.

· Must not have a Personal Protection Order or substantially similar order issued against them.

· Must be able to maintain emotional control under extreme stress; have the ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

· Must refrain from the illegal use of controlled substances or use of medical marijuana.

· Must maintain proficiency in the use and care of firearms.

· Must be able to meet firearms performance standards established by the department and/or MCOLES.

· Knowledge of state laws and their enforcement.

· Knowledge of investigations and law enforcement methods and procedures and the laws governing and prescribing the powers and authorities of a law enforcement officer.

· Must be able to work effectively with other employees and the general public.

· Must, upon competent examination, show no evidence of mental illness or physical illness/disability which would affect the performance of any of the essential functions of the position. A police officer must remain free of mental illness and physical illnesses/disabilities which may tend to impair the efficient performance of a law enforcement officer’s duties or which might endanger the lives of others or the law enforcement officer.

· Must be able to perform all essential job functions and be able to meet all physical demands and working conditions.

· Possess or be able to complete first aid, CPR, and AED certification.

· Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine the proper course of action.

· Ability to react quickly and calmly under emergency situations.

· Ability to obtain accurate information through interviews, interrogations, and observations.

· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

· Ability to function as a team member.

· Ability to comply with laws, rules, regulations, protocols, policies, procedures, and orders.

Preferred criteria:

· Three years of fulltime law enforcement experience.

· College degree.
