Chemist I

Summary/Objective:
Supports R&D by synthesizing chemistries and evaluating the performance of these chemistries, as well as conducting experiments related to claims and innovation.
Essential Functions
- Conduct synthesis reactions following the Colonial Batch Production Procedures to prepare samples for current and prospective customers.
- Conduct synthesis reactions following the Colonial Batch Production Procedures to evaluate potential raw material sources for use in existing processes.
- Conduct analytical testing on all in-process samples and final products, in accordance with the CCI analytical procedures.
- Conduct applications and claims work to support the development of new products by the synthesis team.
- Conduct applications and claims work to support the marketing of products.
- Conduct applications and claims work to support customer projects from the sales team.
- Develop performance blends of products that meet market needs.
- Develop formulations featuring key products or concepts for sales and marketing use.
- Prepare prototype samples of formulations for sales and marketing use.
- Develop methods for applications and claims evaluations.
- Create and maintain detailed records of experiments, development work, and testing results.
- Provide written reports at the conclusion of assigned projects.
- Support the team Manager on any assigned special projects.
- Practice lab safety and complete required safety training in a timely manner.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Required Education and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in a chemistry is required.
- An understanding of the handling procedures for hazardous chemicals and chemical reactions is required.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and consistency.
- Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and adapt to evolving project priorities.
- Good written and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability and willingness to work/stand at the bench for multiple hours a day and handle various mixing, weighing, and testing equipment. No heavy lifting is required.
- Prior experience in claims testing or formulating is a plus.
