Colonial Country Club is currently looking to fill a Second Assistant Superintendent role. We are seeking individuals with a strong work ethic, a team first mentality, and a desire to advance their careers in the industry. Individuals will interact with the Director of Agronomy, Superintendent, First Assistant, and staff to develop knowledge and skills necessary to lead a team and produce championship conditions. There is strong potential to advance within the management team. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in golf course maintenance while working at one of the most prestigious clubs in the country.
Individuals will have the opportunity to experience maintenance of a newly renovated golf course along with construction of a new maintenance facility and practice facility. They will also gain experience in:
- PGA Tour tournament preparation
- Water management
- Bermudagrass agronomic and cultural practices
- Maintaining 007XL bentgrass greens in the transition zone
- Operation and maintenance of new HDPE, Rainbird 2-wire irrigation system
- Operation and maintenance of hydronics system
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning and execution of daily maintenance practices, including mowing, fertilization, irrigation, and pest management.
- Supervise and train maintenance staff to ensure proper execution of golf course maintenance tasks.
- Monitor turf health and playing conditions, identifying and addressing any issues that may arise.
- Oversee irrigation operations, including scheduling, repairs, and water management.
- Assist in implementing agronomic programs designed to maintain course conditions at championship levels.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to golf course maintenance, including pesticide applications and environmental safety.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, chemical applications, and irrigation schedules.
- Participate in special projects, such as course renovations and tournament preparation.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Associates degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- 1-3 years of experience in golf course maintenance required.
- Working knowledge of turfgrass management practices, irrigation systems, and pest control methods.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to train and oversee a diverse team.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
