Code Enforcement Inspector (Part-time): $15.00 - $25.00 per hour (DOQ). The City of Colonial Heights is seeking a part-time Code Enforcement Inspector (28 hours per week) that is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly professional. This position will report on a regular basis to the Director of Planning and Community Development but on occasion, report to the Building Official when performing work under the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
• Inspect and enforce all city code violations to include but not limited to inoperable vehicles; tall grass and weeds; trash and debris; exterior storage of objects not intended for exterior use; and other violations affecting residential and commercial areas.
• Inspect, on behalf of the zoning administrator, all zoning violations to include but not limited to nonconforming signs and unlawful signs; violations of the fence ordinance; home occupation violations; and other zoning violations affecting residential and commercial areas.
• Addresses public and professional inquiries.
• Enters Violations into a database utlizing a tablet while in the field and a desktop while in the office.
• Other duties as required.
• High School Diploma and two to five years directly related professional or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Experience interpreting and enforcing city codes and state statutes.
• Must be able to proficiently use Microsoft Office, specifically Word.
• Must be proficient navigating a tablet and desktop computer.
• Experience using a database preferred.
• Must possess valid Virginia driver's license.
• Ability to build strong working relationships within and across departments, the citizens, businesses and the community.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills required; must have a clear and open communication style.
• Exceptional customer service skills required; must remain calm and utilize professional verbal deescalation strategies during conflict.
• Successfully pass a criminal background investigation and pre-employment medical/drug screening.
The work requires physical exertion such as walking over rough or difficult terrain; recurring standing, stooping, climbing or walking; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing between 25 and 75 pounds and may require the occasional lifting of objects weighing in excess of 74 pounds. The work may require specific physical characteristic and abilities such as heightened strength, mobility, and dexterity.
The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that require a range of safety and other precautions.
Salary : $15 - $25
