- Bachelor of Science in food service management or nutrition and dietetics, Registered Dietitian or RD eligible required.
- Three (3) years of experience in dietetics and/or food service management position desirable.
- ServSafe certified or willingness to obtain certification.
- Must have knowledge of or willingness to learn requirements of USDA Child Nutrition Program.
- Knowledgeable in applying dietary restrictions for students requiring special diets, including but not limited to, those with food allergies, diabetes, chronic heart, liver or kidney disease, celiac disease, mechanical problems and swallowing problems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, administration and community members, to deal with unexpected stressful situations and to remain calm in emergencies.
- Excellent verbal, written, editing, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform position duties independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to assume additional responsibilities and be flexible with work schedule.
- Possess cooperative attitude and ability to work collaboratively with students, building- level personnel, district administrators and co-workers.
- Willingness to complete professional development/continuing education, as applicable for job proficiency and to maintain professional certifications.
- Proficient in Technology: Microsoft Office Applications, Google Drive, Point of Sale and Menu Analysis software.
- Possesses a valid driver's license, vehicle for transportation and the physical ability to perform’ the position responsibilities.
- Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Abuse Registry.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
- Develops age-appropriate monthly menus for all student feeding programs and special allergy menus which meet USDA regulation and complete menu analysis.
- Manages all student food allergies and dietary requests, including meeting with building level nurses, speech pathologists, parents, students and nutrition services staff as needed regarding student dietary restrictions.
- Prepares a comprehensive carbohydrate report for school nurses.
- Responsible for updating and maintaining allergen information in software programs and other appropriate files as required.
- Reviews all ingredients on food labels to ensure students are provided safe foods that meet his/her special dietary needs.
- Trains nutrition services staff on proper protocol for preparing and serving special diets to students with food allergies/diet restrictions.
- Evaluates the quality of new and currently utilized products to determine acceptability for allergy students
- Collects and maintains food labels of all products purchased in an organized manner as per USDA regulations
- Responsible for maintenance of staff portion manual and other menu tools to ensure meals served align with USDA regulations
- Updates healthy snack guidance for schools and parents.
- Responsible for development of and standardization of all recipes. Maintains up-to-date recipe file in district software program.
- Assists operations specialist in coordinating USDA commodity orders and monitors allocations and inventory to maximize usage of district allocated USDA commodities.
- Maintains and updates the Nutrition Services website as needed.
- Reviews and creates menu cost analysis. Monitors and updates food cost in inventory software with other specialists.
- Coordinates Farm to School and school garden activities with other office specialists and school managers.
- Develops nutrition education materials with instruction staff, as requested or needed.
