Security Officer (Full Time)
Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a Security Officer to support security efforts and operations at our Headquarters in Norfolk, VA.
Job Description:
- Drafting daily reports outlining activities and any disturbances.
- Verify identification badges of employees, visitors, subcontractors, and temporary employees.
- Check tool bags and vehicles that are entering and exiting the shipyard and its premises.
- Log all visitors.
- Confirm property passes when material is removed from the facility.
- Escort terminated employees, or any person requiring removal, from the facility.
- Investigate and report suspicious activity.
- Push open and close parking lot gates, approximately weighing 100 lbs.
- Conduct thorough patrol, both foot and vehicular for entire shipyard, vessels, dry docks, buildings, piers, mobile offices, off-site properties and trade shops.
- In case of fire and other emergencies, contact fire departments or other appropriate service providers.
- Check lights, alarm systems, windows, doors, and gates for proper functioning.
- Provide First Aid/CPR in the absence of Safety Personnel and maintain qualifications for First Responder.
- Works in conjunction with the Captain / Corporal.
Qualifications:
- Must have at least 2 years patrolling experience and an Active DCJS Armed Certification or willing to obtain/renew.
- Must have their own weapon.
- Must be available to work all shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd).
- Must have reliable transportation, maintain a valid Driver's License with a record that allows the operation of company vehicles.
- Must have a stable employment history.
- Must be capable of passing a physical fitness test, health exam, background investigation and periodic drug test.
- Must be qualified as a First Responder/CPR.
- Must be able to act upon instruction.
- Must be able to climb metal stairs, inclined gangways, and vertical ladders up to 40 feet in case of an emergency.
- Must wear personal protective equipment hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes and, when necessary, a respirator.
- Must be able to work independently to complete responsibilities.
- Must have regular, reliable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prefer VADCJS Armed Security Officer Arrest Authority.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
- Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
- Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions.
- Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
- Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
- While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
- Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
- Frequent use of respirator.
