Full-time, 12-month position that reports directly to the Director of Security. This is a non-exempt position. Security staff are responsible for patrolling the 94-acre campus and monitoring activity campus-wide. This position will support both daily and nighttime security operations, with the officer working Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Patrol buildings, campus grounds, and parking lots on foot and in a vehicle to observe unusual behavior and deter illegal activity
- Observe the activities of persons in and around campus buildings including monitoring security systems such as cameras and alarms
- Respond to routine inquiries and guide campus visitors to the appropriate areas, ensuring they have the proper identification
- Assess problem situations and exercise tact and judgment in bringing about their resolution
- Document all credible campus incidents
- Enforce parking and driving rules of Colorado Academy
- Work cooperatively, courteously, and professionally with all segments of the Colorado Academy community
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
- Participate in training opportunities as requested, including firearms qualifications
- Work successfully with security team members to achieve department goals
- Assist with Emergency Planning and Drills
- Must be willing to work prescheduled, mandatory after-hours school events such as Homecoming, Prom, and Graduation
- Occasional overtime opportunities may also arise voluntarily
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent desired
- This is an armed role requiring a minimum of 4 years of prior experience in law enforcement or military service. Security experience or education cannot substitute for the required police or military background
- A valid P.O.S.T. certification or CCW is preferred, or willingness to obtain CCW
- Valid driver’s license and motor vehicle record must meet established standards
- This position requires for candidates in the final stage to submit to a background check, drug screening, and psychological exam, all provided and paid for by Colorado Academy
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Comfortable with radio communication and public speaking.
- Basic computer skills including experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Must have First Aid certification within 90 days of hire date
- The applicant must be able to provide their own 9mm or .40 caliber firearm
Physical Requirements
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements year-round
- Ability to walk for long distances
Pay for this position: $34.00 per hour. Colorado Academy reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. Any discrepancies that may exist do not relate to sex.
