Looking for a fun and engaging job that makes a difference in the lives of animals and people? Colorado Animal Rescue is searching for an outstanding Canine Behavior Manager to fill a fun and rewarding position on our Leadership Team.

C.A.R.E.’s Canine Behavior Manager is responsible for monitoring and evaluating the shelter canine population while developing and implementing programs for enrichment and training. This position works with the canine behavior and medical employees to meet shelter goals pertaining to training, enrichment, housing, sanitation, nutrition, and veterinary care. Additional primary responsibilities include working directly with the public to place animals in new forever homes and to encourage healthy, responsible, and well supported human-animal relationships.

LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS:

  • Collaborate with C.A.R.E.’s Leadership Team and Operations Manager, to effectively engage the organization’s core values, mission, and vision in daily Dog Team supervision, assignment of canine care tasks, and implementation of enrichment and behavior plans.
  • Carry community focused values, goals, and initiatives into Team Culture & Staffing, Client Care, Community Partnerships, and Shelter Facility Maintenance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee and participate in daily animal care following the guidelines of the Five Freedoms, Socially Conscious Sheltering, and PACFA regulations
  • Conduct Dog Team daily meetings, providing direction focused on quality of care, increased adaptability, and activity focused on decreased lengths of stay for shelter pets
  • Evaluate the behavior of shelter dogs to identify and implement plans that include canine enrichment, training, and safe handling practices
  • Communicate directly with dog adopters and dog owners in regard to current shelter pets or potential shelter intakes
  • Provide client facing dog behavior support to keep dogs in their current homes

C.A.R.E. TEAM MEMBERS WORK TOGETHER TO:

  • Serve the needs of animals in our care
  • Place shelter animals into new loving homes
  • Engage with pet owners, adopters, and supporters to meet their needs
  • Offer community support programming
  • Demonstrate teamwork and positive engagement with coworkers
  • Participate in events, marketing, and fundraising (to support all above)
  • Ongoing education in latest best practices within animal welfare
  • Maintain great relationships with partner organizations
  • Imagine and implement strategic plans and growth initiatives

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Performs work in both a dog kennel and office environment. Potentially prolonged periods of sitting and/or repetitive motion. May work in an area with a high noise level. Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal dander, and feces. Occasional lifting with reasonable accommodation.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EDUCATION:

REQUIRED

  • Experience with dog training and canine behavior management
  • Experience with team supervision and management
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to utilize effective problem solving/decision making skills

PREFERRED

  • 3 or more years of experience as a professional dog trainer
  • Dog Training Certification (ex: CPDT, IAABC, IABC)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $46,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
