Lamar Community College has an exciting opportunity for you to be our next Assistant Controller. We are looking for a dynamic, passionate, dedicated individual who will lead and implement LCC’s strategic plan. POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking an energetic, highly organized, dynamic professional to join our LCC team. The Assistant Controller will act as a backup for the Controller. This person will be responsible for financial accounting for the college, including backup for Payroll and delegate for State Controller when appropriate. The position will be involved in day-to-day accounting with functional oversight of records and reports. They will also assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc reports for the institution, and prepare various required State and Federal financial reports. This position will designate a portion of time to assist with all LCC Foundation Financials, including the completion and presentation of financial statements to the Board. As an employee of, and the Colorado Community College System, this position is required to uphold and enforce the policies of LCC and CCCS, and all local, state and federal laws. This position will comply with all student privacy laws (FERPA); and is a mandatory reporter of any suspected illegal activity.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
  • Work with Controller to ensure that the Financial Accounting System operates properly and provides timely and accurate information for administrative and reporting use. This includes the functions of accounting, disbursements, payroll, cashiering, billings and collections, and cash control for all funds and activities of the College.• Work with Controller to ensure that the above functions and all related functions are conducted in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, State of Colorado Fiscal Rules, institutional policies, and other applicable fiscal policies of federal, state and local authorities having jurisdiction.• Work with Controller to ensure that the Financial Accounting System operates properly and provides timely and accurate information for administrative and reporting use. This includes the functions of accounting, disbursements, payroll, cashiering, billings and collections, and cash control for all funds and activities of the College.• Work with Controller to ensure that the above functions and all related functions are conducted in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, State of Colorado Fiscal Rules, institutional policies, and other applicable fiscal policies of federal, state and local authorities having jurisdiction.• In conjunction with Controller. establish and maintain appropriate internal controls within the institution to reasonably safeguard assets, assure accuracy of financial and accounting data, promote operational efficiency, and encourage compliance with applicable fiscal rules and policies. Insure proper and current maintenance of internal accounting systems and documentation, prescribing procedural changes as necessary to benefit the institution and the State of Colorado. This to include restructuring accounting staff assignment as necessary to meet changing requirements and to improve efficiency and eliminate duplication or unnecessary clerical and accounting effort while maintaining the integrity of the Financial Accounting System. Perform the functions of an internal auditor for the College. Maintain budgetary accounting records to ensure that applicable guidelines and fiscal regulations are observed in the expenditure of these funds.• Ability to prepare all reports of a financial nature for the College and provide general accounting and fiscal information to those individuals, departments or agencies who have need for and legal access to such information.• Knowledge and ability to reconcile College accounting system with the Colorado Financial Reporting System (COFRS) and prepare and follow through with adjusting and correction entries where required.• Assist with year-end closing of financial records, including the calculation and preparation of year-end adjusting entries and the preparation of internally generated financial statements for the College.• Work with Human Resources, Controller, and Accounts Payable in the completion of payroll.• In absence of Controller, serve as senior College accounting professional. Complete training and certification needed to serve as backup Delegate for State Controller, etc.• Assist in maintaining, overseeing, and managing accounting records for all college funds in accordance with state fiscal rules, state statutes, state procurement code, NACUBO, and GAAP.• Coordinate, maintain and oversee the billing/accounting functions for local tax boards.• Assist with the control of capital assets that include annual inventory and enforcement of capitalization and disposal policies.• Assist with various state and federal financial and statistical reports including: IPED’s, State Budget Format Report, fee schedules, Federal financial aid reports, etc.• Monitor grant expenditures and coordinate grant billings with Grant/Project Manager.• Assist with ongoing training of all college staff in appropriate use of state funds, budget and fiscal policies and procedures, and the appropriate use of administrative tools such as Self-Service Banner.• Verify the balance in all liability accounts on a monthly basis including payroll liabilities and sales tax payable.• Record all cash receipts and journal entries in Banner. Post interoffice billings to individual accounts.• Assist with functions of PCard and Travel Card in conjunction with Controller and Accounts Payable.• Verify FOAPs and review and correct FOAP mismatches.• Cross training and assistance with LCC Business Office and LCC Cashier positions.• Work with Controller for the completion and maintenance of effective inventory and control of Capitalized equipment and maintain accounting records of inventory changes.• Preparation, completion, and presentation of LCC Foundation Statements.• Lamar Community College employees are required to participate in accreditation activities for the college. This includes, but is not limited to participation in Conversation Day and other Open Pathway activities.• Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller and Vice President of Administrative Services and Institutional Effectiveness.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Salary Range: $47,000.00 - $50,000.00. The specific salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
