About the Position
CDOT has a part-time Student Trainee position to fill located in Pueblo, Colorado with the R2 South Engineering Program. Under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer, as a Student Trainee II, you will learn to apply engineering theories, principles, and standards to roadway design and construction projects. During design, you will learn to assist in the development of roadway construction plans, design details, specifications, and cost estimates for state projects. During construction, you will learn to assist in the inspection of construction activities to ensure contract compliance and in the preparation of item documentation for monthly estimates.
This part time position will have the potential to change into a full time Engineer in Training position once the student graduates.
Your duties and responsibilities will be performed under the guidance and supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer and include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist engineers and engineering technicians with tasks associated with the engineering work of the Residency.
- Learn to apply current state and federal specifications and standards to project design and construction oversight.
- Participate in formal and on-the-job training opportunities.
- Observe engineering staff on design and construction projects, including participating in meetings, on-site inspections, etc.
- Become familiar with CDOT processes and procedures.
- Attend and complete all required safety training.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
- The expected work schedule is between Monday-Friday, with opportunity for a flexible schedule.
- After a training period, you will likely work a hybrid schedule with a combination of in-office and remote work.
- It is anticipated that this role will work approximately 15 to 40 hours per week.
- May work weekends, holidays, and/or nights.
- Must travel to and from construction sites, meetings and training which can include the Denver and Pueblo areas.
- Required to operate CDOT vehicles.
