What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Structural Trades I - Colorado Springs position at Colorado Department of Transportation?
About the Position:
This Structural Trades I position is located in Colorado Springs and will assist the Structural Trades II with minor work in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, framing drywall and painting along with masonry and related trades. Performs general grounds security, and maintenance of major and minor structures, concrete work framing, welding, and cutting.
Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Building renovations including demolition and removal of scrape and debris from construction site for disposal, installation of drywall partitions, suspended ceilings, doors windows trim and window coverings as well as concrete work, framing, finishing, for preventive maintenance;
- Builds modular office space from custom designed plans and specifications, assembles workspaces including partitions and furnishings, making adjustments and modifications when needed;
- Prepares new and existing walls and surfaces for paint by taping, spackling, sanding and priming before applying paint;
- Assists grounds keeper by operating large and small lawn equipment including: mowers, edgers, weed eaters and blowers;
- Installs and repairs underground lawn sprinkler systems: prunes trees and fertilizes;
- Operates large and small snow blowers, snow blades and shovels to remove snow and ice from sidewalks, drive paths and parking areas and applies ice melt chemicals;
- Helps with loading and unloading of supplies and materials;
- Other duties as assigned
Work Environment:
- Typical work schedule Monday – Friday 7:00 am to 2:30 pm
- Exerts in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force regularly to move objects
- Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions caused by the weather
- Exposure to non-weather related and cold temperatures
- Exposure to non-weather related humid conditions
- Exposure to conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists and gasses that may affect breathing, eyes and skin
- May work in high, exposed places
- Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
- May be required to operate CDOT vehicles on occasion.
