Position Purpose
The Academic Advisor and CTE Coordinator works under the supervision of the Director of Advising and is responsible for supporting students on a bi-annual basis with their Individual Academic and Career Plan (ICAP) ensuring students graduate from CEC with a postsecondary credential. In addition, this role is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the effectiveness of career and technical education, ensuring their compliance with relevant regulations, and providing valuable opportunities for students.
Job Duties
Academic Advisor
- Upholds CECs beliefs found on the CEC website.
- Meets bi-annually with a designated caseload of approximately 60 students and families to create and review the students ICAP ensuring the student will meet CECs graduation requirements as outlined in the Early College Graduation policy.
- Assists students in registering for classes that align with their ICAP.
- Mentor students in achieving their academic and/or career goals by sharing information on internships, employment opportunities, scholarships, and other opportunities.
- Monitors students with less than a 73% classroom grade and collaborates with the Academic Dean and MTSS team to help ensure students receive appropriate supports to be successful.
- Updates and maintains accurate student data in IC.
- Meets regularly with CEC Admissions staff and with community college partner concurrent enrollment staff.
- Assists students when applying to colleges/universities, FAFSA, and internships.
- Supports MTSS and ESS teams as needed.
- Participates in professional development as requested by the Director of Advising.
- Other duties as assigned.
Career and Technical Education Coordinator
- Provide support and guidance to CTE faculty and staff in meeting school-level CTE goals.
- Oversee all CTE programming, including course requirements, equipment, staffing, purchasing, record keeping and data reporting.
- Verify the acquisition, inventory, and asset tagging of all equipment purchased.
- Offer dedicated office hours within the College and Careers Connection Center, providing personalized support to students as they utilize Xello and other resources to secure internships, apprenticeships, and work-based learning opportunities.
- Oversee Industry Certification Program, including all data reporting to CSI and CDE and all purchasing of licenses and exam vouchers.
- Participate in Career Foundations courses, especially in teaching students how to navigate Xello.
- Engage actively with state and local organizations that advocate and facilitate career pathways and work-based learning opportunities, including local Sector Partnerships and the NOCO Work Based Learning Alliance.
- Attend public events to facilitate connections between students and community members who can offer support in their career pathway goals.
- Regularly collaborate with Advising staff to determine relevant learning experiences and share already developed opportunities.
- Work with the Work-Based Learning Coordinator to organize and promote "Lunch and Learns" where industry professionals interact with students, answering questions about their professions over lunch.
- Cultivate partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to arrange tours, job shadowing, and other valuable learning experiences for students.
- Communicate work-based learning opportunities to students.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Teaching license with CTE endorsement is preferred.
- 3-5 years of successful teaching experience in CTE or related field is preferred.
- Experience providing academic support to high school and/or college student preferred.
