POSITION INFORMATION

Deputy Probation Officer (DPO) volunteer positions are available in the 2nd Judicial District Denver. Our volunteer program is located at 303 W Colfax Ave. Denver, Colorado 80204. Applications for this non-paid position are currently being accepted. We are open for this position on Monday and Tuesday from 9:00am-5:00pm. A minimum commitment of one day per week, 4 hours (or more) per day, for one year is preferred. Mandatory training consists of two-full days and then hands on through the year. Applicants interested in completing specific school-related internship programs are encouraged to apply. The DPO Coordinator, Supervisors and Assigned Probation Officer will provide training and supervision appropriate for duties assigned, which may depend on a person’s availability and capacity. DPO specific duties may include but are not limited to; learning work-flow and case management practices for probation supervision, meet with clients, assist probation officers with cases and a wide range of administrative duties, preparing court documents, and managing a small caseload. All Deputy Probation Officers must pass a Criminal History Check.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Completion of the Deputy Probation Officer Training.

Provide supervision to probation clients managing a small case load.

Regular check-ins with client's (via in person, WebEx or phone).

Implementing Incentives & Sanctions

Implementation of Assessments

Creating Case Plans using SMART goals

Keep accurate and up to date records of client contacts; work with JPOD and SharePoint computer systems.

Write court reports, complaints, and other necessary correspondence.

Attend client court hearings when necessary.

Monitor terms and conditions of probation and all court orders.

Evaluate client needs and develop community referrals accordingly/Help develop case plans with clients.

Work with collections investigators on collecting cost, fees, and restitution.

Application of Motivational Interviewing Techniques

Writing Narratives using correct coding

During normal business operations, intern/volunteer opportunities are available, offering practical experience in the field.

As a new Deputy Probation Officer, you will start as a DPO 1 and have opportunities to move to a DPO 2 and DPO 3 based on your length of service, ability to complete training, and utilize core skills of an active probation officer. You will work closely with the DPO Coordinator to guide you through the program. Additional training and networking opportunities will be provided as well as participation in coaching and feedback and participation in Mock Interviewing upon readiness.
