Position Summary
Colorado Military Academy is looking for a High School Science Teacher to join our team. As our High School Science Teacher, you would be teaching Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental/Forensic Science with class sizes ranging from 15-25 students. In our 8 period schedule, you would have 2 plan periods and a 30 minute lunch. We pride ourselves on our staff comradery, positive work culture and supportive administration.
Responsibilities:
The High School Science Teacher is responsible for teaching knowledge and skills in high school sciences preparing high school students for postsecondary education, military service, and/or the workforce.
- Promotes critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Create hands-on, inquiry-based, project-based lessons that build excitement for science.
- Demonstrate scientific concepts using models, technology, and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Instructs students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment.
- Follows IEP accommodations and communicates with SpEd teachers as needed.
- Posts assignments and grades in PowerSchool and Google Classroom in a timely manner.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards, establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Attends professional development and other duties, as assigned.
Qualified Applicants will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education or other related field
- All employees must pass a background check
- Carries out daily tasks efficiently and accurately
- Familiarity in using educational materials (textbooks, online textbooks, lesson plans, etc)
- Ability to create unique lessons that will help prepare children for their future (e.g., STEM lessons, arts & crafts, etc)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Science, Education or other related field
- Colorado Teaching license with Secondary Science Endorsement OR have passed the Secondary Science Praxis Exam
- 1 year prior experience teaching Secondary Sciences
- Familiarity with PowerSchool and Google Classroom
- Excellent knowledge of teaching techniques, educational methods and content as well as the ability to engage children & parents alike
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) along with the ability to build rapport with parents
- Strong organizational skills along with the ability to complete multiple tasks at a time
