JOB SUMMARY

The Peer Support Technician will work with students who are currently in High School/Boarding School or Freshman in College and who are looking at furthering their education. The Peer Support Technician will assist student through the first-time process of applying for the Higher Education/Adult Vocational Training Applications. Peer Support Technician will assist student in looking at the options of which route to go in their educational path and will also work with student and resources to ensure that the student is on track academically. Peer Support Technician will assist student in applying for scholarship/grants for additional resources. Peer Support Technician will keep notes on services in which are provided. Work closely with the services that are provided through school counselors and network closely with the Education Department Counselors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

The Peer Support Technician is responsible for the following:

  • Monitors Boarding School students and Freshman Higher Education/Adult Vocational Students academic progress
  • Monitors and tracks student progress with identified Degree Plan, Educational Plan or any other academic plan of school of attendance
  • Works closely with student in regards to accessing resources at all identified academic institute and surrounding resources of local area
  • Works closely with students who return during academic break to assist with employment opportunities that enhances their degree of student for hands on experience
  • Works closely with the institute’s Academic Advisor in assisting the student through their identified Degree Plan
  • Ensure that all student’s academic files are set up and in compliance with the funding agency requirements
  • Works closely with funding sources for contractual requirements are within scope of work
  • In absence of other staff may at times be required to take on the responsibility of general secretarial duties
  • At times may Transport student/parents for CDO
  • Environment or pace of the demands for the office varies with deadlines from low to heavy demanding with a short turn around window time of information being transmitted via phone, internet or in person or all at one time
  • Some requirements of overnight travels
  • Ability to multi-tasker, proficient computer skills, knowledge and experience of Excel, Word, Omni form & Quicken
  • Assist in the professional appearance and maintenance of the upkeep and cleanliness of the office
  • Adheres to FERPA (Family Educational and Rights Privacy Act) confidentiality guidelines and furnishes all information based on the guideline
  • Any other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, completing forms and other office procedures and terminology
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups and the measurements of training effects
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and procedures for educational counseling and guidance
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions, must also multi-task and interact with a wide variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues
  • Ability to work on a fast/short time frame and at times independently
  • Working knowledge with EXCEL, Omni form, Word and Quicken
  • Ability to attend meetings both locally and out of town/state
  • Ability to develop and maintain an academic recap to include trends and departmental history
  • Prior Case Management experience
  • Administrative skills, abilities and experience, such as working in a front office with various computer software programs, ten key proficiencies, take notes and transcribe, and a good working repour with the public
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work in a team environment, participate in work groups, contribute to department projects and strategies
  • Physically ability to perform duties assigned; at times may require long periods of time keyboarding, reading and sitting for extended periods. On occasion may have to lift and carry files that can weigh more than 10 lbs
  • Ability to occasionally work beyond the regular eight (8) hours shift.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree
