Job Summary:
The incumbent is under the direction of the on-duty shift supervisor. The incumbent's primary responsibility is to patrol and inspect tribal property, vehicles, enterprises and utilities protecting against fire, theft, vandalism, terrorism and illegal activity. Security officers protect property, enforce rules on the property, and deter criminal activity. Security Officer is assigned a stationary position from which they a patrol area, conduct security checks, and screen individuals for entry into the Administrative Building.
Duties & Functions:
1. Will protect the Tribes investments and deter criminal activity and/or any other problems that arise.
2. Use the radio and telephone communications to call for assistance from police, fire or emergency medical services as the situation dictates.
3. Write reports and keep logs outlining the observations and activities during the assigned shift.
4. Monitor suspicious activities and report any and all criminal activity to law enforcement officials.
5. Screen individuals as directed or needed for entry into the assigned area during the assigned shift.
6. Check on persons during non-operating hours.
7. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Chairman or designee to fulfill the Department's needs, objectives and/or goals.
8. Follow established Tribal policies and those outlined in the Colorado River Indian Tribes Employee Handbook.
Required Skills and Abilities:
l. Must show sound judgment and common sense.
2. Must follow directions and directives from supervisors.
3. Must possess the ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
4. Must be able to deal with stressful situations and keep information strictly confidential.
5. Communication skills. Security guards and officers must communicate effectively with others, even in stressful situations.
6. Sound judgment. Security guards and officers must be able to quickly determine the best course of action when a dangerous situation arises.
7. Observation skills. Security guards and officers must be alert and aware of their surroundings, and be able to quickly recognize anything out of the ordinary.
8. Patience. Security guards and officers may need to spend long periods standing and observing their environment without distractions.
Education & Experience Requirements:
l. Must possess a diploma of graduation from an accredited High School (or G.E.D. equivalent).
2. Must possess a current valid driver's license throughout employment.
3. Must also have a safe driving record within the last three (3) year period of appointment, and meet the safe driving requirement of the Tribes.
Physical Requirement:
l. Must be twenty (21) years of age.
2. Must successfully complete a drug screening test prior to appointment.
3. Physically able to perform duties assigned.
4. Must be able to work in a variety of weather and environmental conditions with exposure to the elements, dust, and extreme hot and cold temperatures.
5. Occasionally work extended shifts as assigned, some weekends and holiday.
Work Environment:
Security guards work in a wide variety of places, including public spaces, stores, and office buildings.
Security guard will spend a considerable amount of time on their feet, either at a single post or patrolling buildings and grounds. Some may sit for long periods behind a counter or in a designated area at the entrance to a facility or community.
Security guards who work during the day may have a great deal of contact with other employees and the public.
