Part-Time HR Business Partner – Event Services

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the recruitment and hiring process for the Event Services Seasonal hiring.
  • Lead the onboarding process for new event staff, ensuring all required paperwork is completed and submitted timely.
  • Help facilitate and deliver comprehensive orientation sessions to new hires, covering company policies, safety protocols, and job expectations.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for event staff regarding HR-related inquiries or issues.
  • Responsible for all aspects of employee relations, investigations, and corrective action while driving forth the people-first mission of the company.
  • Provide guidance and conflict resolution, ensuring fair treatment, effective communication, and prompt resolution.
  • Communicate with the vice president of human resources and our leave administrator regarding extended employee absences, workers' compensation claims, paid family leave requests, accommodation requests, and other leave requests.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work culture through proactive engagement and feedback.
  • Ensure event staff comply with all federal, state, and local employment laws, including wage and hour laws, Paid Family Leave (PFL), and other applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records, ensuring compliance with all laws and other relevant requirements.
  • Provide coaching and support to supervisors and team leads to help them effectively manage and lead their teams.
  • Offer guidance on performance management, employee motivation, and a respectful and professional work environment.
  • Help identify and address leadership gaps or challenges and assist in developing appropriate solutions.
  • Assist with training initiatives for event staff, ensuring they are prepared for their roles and understand their responsibilities.
  • Ensure that all training materials are current and relevant to the team’s needs, providing coaching as necessary.
  • Help track training completion and ensure staff is properly certified and compliant with required training.
  • Be present at all games, ensuring HR support is available during event operations.
  • Attend and support all event staff training sessions, assisting with scheduling, content delivery, and participant engagement.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS (JOB SPECIFICATIONS):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in HR, focusing on employee relations, investigations, compliance, and/or event-based staff management.
  • Previous experience in sports, entertainment, or large-scale event staffing is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of state and local labor laws, including wage and hour regulations, Paid Family Leave (PFL), and other applicable employment laws.
  • Ability to manage sensitive HR issues with confidentiality, tact, and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to provide leadership coaching and mentorship to supervisors and staff.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proficiency in HR software systems (UKG and ABI) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Comfortable using scheduling tools and employee management systems.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or other relevant HR certifications are a plus.
  • Willingness to be hands-on and approachable in a dynamic, fast-paced event environment.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • In-person role.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by game schedules and training sessions.
    • Leading up to and in-season: work all orientation and training dates as well as all 81 home games (evenings, weekends, and holidays) and special events.
    • Off Season: work office hours, which can be flexible with the days of the week and start/end times (Monday through Friday).

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to move around the venue for extended periods, including standing, walking, and navigating through crowds or various locations within the facility.
  • Frequent standing and walking during events, games, training sessions, and other activities. The role may require walking the venue multiple times during a shift to engage with staff or supervise operations.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry materials such as event staff handbooks, training materials, or other documentation (up to 15-20 pounds).
  • Must maintain focus and perform HR-related tasks throughout long hours, often during evening, weekend, and holiday shifts in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
  • Clear hearing and vision are essential for communication, especially in noisy or crowded settings (such as during events). Listening actively and understanding verbal communication from staff or event attendees in a loud environment is also important.
  • Frequent use of a computer, smartphone, or tablet to access HR software, record documentation, or handle administrative tasks. Typing and handling paperwork are necessary.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions (indoor and outdoor events), including extreme heat, cold, or rainy conditions, as events may occur in different environments.
  • The role requires extended periods of being on your feet during events and training, ranging from 4- 6 hours, with occasional breaks.
  • In case of emergencies or employee issues, the HR Business Partner may need to quickly move to different areas of the venue to address concerns or resolve conflicts in real-time.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, especially during game days or major events.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Hourly rate: $35. This is a regular-status, part-time position with an average of 24-28 hours per week.
  • As a candidate for this position, your salary and related compensation elements will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills, and any other factors the Colorado Rockies consider relevant to the hiring decision.

All benefits are subject to eligibility requirements and the terms of official plan documents, which may be modified or amended at any given time.
